SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Setup Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Setup Operator will be responsible for preparing, adjusting, and maintaining machinery to ensure efficient production runs. The Setup Operator sets up and operates for first piece inspection power hand presses to bend, form, stretch, cut, and straighten metal plates, metal extrusions, formed sheet metal, structural shapes, forgings, and weldments. This role requires a keen eye for detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly to minimize downtime.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and set up machinery according to specific job orders and production schedules.
  • Adjust machine settings to ensure optimal operation and product quality.
  • Load raw materials into machines and ensure proper alignment and calibration.
  • Operate machinery to produce parts and components according to specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations from standards.
  • Perform regular quality checks and measurements to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or operational issues promptly.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and any repairs performed.
  • Plans sequence of operations. Measures and sights along workpiece to mark reference lines.
  • Selects and positions flat, V-block, radius, or special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine.
  • Aligns and bolts dies to rain and bed of machine.
  • Turns handwheel or levers to set depth and pressure of ram stroke.
  • Lifts and positions workpiece between dies of machine.
  • Starts machine to lower ram which bends or straightens workpiece between dies.
  • Repositions workpiece and changes dies when making multiple or successive passes. Hand forms or finishes workpiece.
  • Inspects first piece in accordance to blue print with use of various checking equipment such as mics, calipers, height gauges.
  • Signs off on first piece as to its readiness for general production.
  • Inspects and marks job number on finished workpiece.
  • Sets dies to punch and blank heavy metal.
  • Inspects and sets all safety devices.
  • Records safety, labor, first piece, die, fixture, and material information
  • Trains new employees on job, safety, and record keeping requirements.
  • Drives fork truck or uses hand truck to remove and deliver dies.
  • Cleans dies, work surfaces and areas.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, issues, and improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Setup Operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and manuals.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work in a noisy and sometimes hot or cold environment.
