About the Role

We are looking for an experienced meteorologist to join our team on-site in Austin, Texas. This role reports directly to our Head of Weather Data and will work closely with traders and analysts in support of energy trading and renewable asset management operations. This is an excellent opportunity to own the operational forecasting process for a leading commodities trading team. 

This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

• Formulate weather views and make calls with appropriate conviction for North American geographies on week-ahead, sub-seasonal and seasonal time scales 
• Proactively identify and alert energy traders of impactful weather events and forecast change risks through written reports and impromptu verbal discussion 
• Quickly interpret and communicate weather information in commercially relevant terms for power, renewables, and natural gas
• Collaborate with R&D-focused team members toward the development of weather data-enabled software tools to support manual and automated trading activities
• Discuss forecasts and share ideas with other members of the weather team
• Educate traders on weather and be available for questions 
• Confidently deliver concise, understandable, and accurate forecasts 

About You

This person will be a great communicator with seasoned meteorological intuition and a strong analytical tool set. They will be skilled at conveying information about forecast uncertainty without sacrificing conviction, and enthusiastic about participating in two-way conversations with front office traders.

In addition, we are looking for somebody with the following:

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Meteorology or related field
• At least 5 years' experience in operational forecasting for energy commodities
• Ability to think probabilistically and manage forecast path risk
• Resilience under pressure and aptitude for problem solving
• Strong technical/programming experience is a plus (Python preferred)
