loading, unloading, and storing automotive parts and supplies; and maintaining work areas. They assist Vehicle Mechanic's in performing a full range of maintenance, repair and service activities on automobiles, Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) Busses and Vans.

Maintain work areas to ensure a safe work environment. Performs apprentice maintenance, repair and modification functions under the general supervision of senior team members on automobiles and CMV's.

Installation or removal of access panels, components and accessories, washing and cleaning of units and other non complex duties.

Assist with checking and replacing components, batteries, and tires. Adhere to safe work practices at all times.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assist in the performance of maintenance and repair activitiesServices and assist with repair various systems that are found on automobiles, busses and vans such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, computer controlled automatic and manual transmissions, high voltage generators, and pneumatic systems.

Ensure all tasks are performed safely. Conducts safety checks and assists in the repair and adjustment of vehicles and equipment.

Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns; and other maintenance as required. Maintains a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards.

Assist in troubleshooting malfunctions on vehicles and repair.Services and assists with repairs of track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, hard bars, track adjusters, hydraulic reversers, final drives, brake bands, steering clutches and hydrostatic transmissions.

Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches;

changes filters and oil, and lubricates vehicles and motor driven equipment.Services, and assists with diagnoses, repairs and maintains speed tandem drive axles with air or electric shift, hydrostatic driven, heavy duty multi-axle suspensions, both conventional steel or air springs.

Tunes gas and diesel engines, services valves, fuel filters and turbo chargers, and pressure checks fuel filters, adjust injector heights, fuel racks, governors, etc.

Assists with the diagnoses of problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassembles units in the following systems : Brakes : Repairs or replaces shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders, any heavy-duty air brakes.

Cooling : Flushes radiator, replaces hoses and thermostat, repairs or replaces radiator and water pump, fan drives, DCA treatment filters, air intercoolers and oil coolers.

Drive : Repairs and replaces drive shaft, differential, axle, manual, automatic and sophisticated computer-controlled transmissions, clutches, transfer cases, power take-off systems, transmission reversers, all wheel drive steering axles and final drives.

Electrical : Repairs or replaces fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls and switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defective cables and wiring.

This will include 12 and 24-volt systems found on military equipment.Exhaust and Emissions Control : Replaces mufflers, manifolds, catalytic converters, turbochargers, blowers, and pipes.

Heating and Air Conditioning : Repairs or replaces heater cores, condensers, compressors, hoses, and controls; recharges air conditioning systems.

Hydraulic : Repairs or replaces pumps, hoses, valves, winches and cylinders.Air : Repairs or replaces compressors, air dryers, brake valves, air tanks and hoses.

Steering and Suspension System : Aligns and balances wheels, repairs or replaces tie rods, ball joints, gear boxes, shock absorbers, springs, steering linkage, kingpins, power steering, hoses, pumps, walking beam suspensions and air suspensions.

Assists with engine overhauls, replaces engines, and rebuilds components.Follow a checklist of inspection proceduresRead and interpret diagnostic test results, often by using dials, gauges, and other computer equipmentRaise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoistsAssist with inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehiclesPerform routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and partsAdjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system componentsRepair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipmentDisassemble and reassemble equipment and partsAssist with service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and motorized equipment, using fleet maintenance and management software.

Assist with work orders creation and cost materials estimates.Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.

Assist in performing annual CMV Inspections.Understand the inspection standards of Part 393 and Appendix G of the FMCSR.Be able to identify defective componentsHave knowledge and proficiency in methods, procedures and tools.

Assist in performing Brake Inspections.Understand and be able to perform the brake service and inspection;Know the methods, procedures, tools and equipment needed;

andBe qualified to perform brake service or inspection by training and / or experience.Performs other work as assigned.Job RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Completion of high school, or GED.

Preferred Class B CDL with airbrakes endorsementtechnical training / formal apprenticeship / trade schoolMust pass DOT pre-employment, drug screen and background checkEducation and / or Experience : One year of experience assisting skilled trades people in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy equipment, Busses and Vans.

Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines.

Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Knowledge of body and frame construction.Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.Skill in the use of gas and electric welding equipment.

Skill in the use of mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.

Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions.Ability to read manuals and schematics.Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.

Ability to communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed.Ability to enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software.

Training that led to attainment of a State or Canadian Province qualifying certificate to perform assigned brake service or inspection tasks, including passage of CDL air brake test in the case of a brake inspection;

or Competition of a State or federal training program, or earning a State qualifying certificate in commercial motor vehicle safety inspections.

Or a combination of other training or experience totaling at least a year. Understand and be able to perform the brake service and inspection;

Know the methods, procedures, tools and equipment needed; andBe qualified to perform brake service or inspection by training and / or experience.

Qualifying brake training or experience includes successful completion of : Education and Technical Assistance Program A State, Canadian Province, Federal agency, or union training program;
