Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Manage the trucking fleet, drivers’ schedules including contracted services, and prioritize requests.
Analyze data for potential projects and oversee the implementation of these initiatives.
Ensure teammates follow proper timekeeping.
Evaluate and manage driver efficiency and safety.
Recruit, develop, and train teammates, complete annual performance reviews for teammates.
Ensure compliance with DOT requirements, as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, statutes, and ordinances.
Manage housekeeping and ensure truck areas are organized and environmentally compliant.
Negotiate and maintain truck freight rates for internal and external carriers.
Function as the liaison between the customer, dispatch, drivers, buyers, and facility operations to provide excellent customer service.
Ensure teammates and drivers are adhering to all safety policies.
Be the champion of safety and implement continuous improvement strategies to drive safety, productivity, and efficiency.
Manage DOT compliance equipment inspections, maintenance, and driver qualifications.
Coordinate DOT physicals, drug screenings, and FMSCA qualifications.
Manage, communicate, and ensure expectations are being met by drivers and dispatchers.
Review production bonus performance.
Resolve and communicate equipment issues, teammate conflicts, and supplier concerns.
Manage the cycle of repairs, maintenance, costs, and inventory.
Manage vendor relationships and develop new avenues for repairs.
Minimize downtime through proactive maintenance and planning.
Develop long term assets plans, including the retirement of equipment after performing a cost analysis.
Strong safety mindset and proven record of safety improvements.
Related on-the-job experience or bachelor’s degree, preferably in logistics, business, or related field.
Understanding of DOT, state, and local regulations, and the ability to successfully apply and communicate these regulations.
Ability to organize and administer a complex transportation program at multiple locations, including contracted services.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel up to 25%.
Ability to proactively solve unique challenges and problems.
Proficient in basic accounting principles.
Basic understanding of Microsoft applications.
Ability to negotiate with third party carriers, maintenance vendors, and small equipment fabricators.
Knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance.
Previous leadership experience.
Min. of 2 yrs. experience in trucking dispatch and logistics or related field
Knowledge and application of DOT, federal, state, and local regulations and requirements.
