Job Description

Velia is a transformative biotech company with the ambitious goal to harness the therapeutic potential of a novel class of human peptides , also known as microproteins. Building upon our founders’ seminal work, the Velia team is constructing and deploying a novel target discovery pipeline that integrates computational science, high throughput profiling, functional genomics, and human clinical data. Innovative discovery scientists are encouraged to apply and bring intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a desire to discover important, new medicines for patients.

As a Translational Biology Research Associate, you will be a member of a highly driven, interdisciplinary team focused on target validation and the development of first-in-class therapeutics. You will be responsible for the design, execution, and interpretation of cellular studies aimed to characterize novel microproteins that affect human health and disease. You will need to leverage your technical and scientific foundation to move our discoveries towards the clinic.

Experience

  • Extensive cell culture experience. Prior experience with primary immune cells is preferred.
  • Experience with cell-based assays such as cytokine secretion (HTRF, ELISA), reporter cell line activation (luciferase), co-culture killing assays, and proliferation assays.
  • Prior experience developing and/or conducting cell-based assays for compound screening is preferred.
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry data acquisition and analysis is preferred.
  • Experience is general lab techniques including ELISA, RT-PCR, molecular cloning, and Western blotting is preferred.
  • Maintaining a high level of data integrity and attention to detail is expected. 
  • Designing hypothesis driven experiments and interpreting experimental results is expected.

Qualifications

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a hunger for innovation and excellence are essential.
  • B.S. or M.S. in biology, biochemistry, or relevant scientific discipline with 3-5 years of research experience.
  • The candidate must be self-motivating and creative, able to work within a team, and collaborate proficiently with colleagues to achieve program goals.
  • The candidate should communicate effectively with colleagues and possess strong communication skills, both written and oral. The candidate will regularly present their work to the R&D team.
  • The candidate should have the confidence to identify problems early and present solutions.
  • An appreciation of the importance of data integrity to enable a smooth transition of discovery research into the clinic is essential.
