TPG Hotels & Resorts is Hiring a Marine Technician Near Essex, MD

Position Overview: Sunset Harbor Marina is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for boats and possess a strong mechanical aptitude. As a Marine Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all types of marine engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and related equipment.

TPG Marinas is a nationwide owner and operator of marina businesses and other waterfront real estate. We have evolved our approach to marina management through over 30 years in the hotel and hospitality industry. Whether we are an investor, owner or third-party operator, TPG is committed to bringing success to capital partners as entrusted stewards of marina business and waterfront real estate assets.

Sunset Harbor Marina is located on Norman Creek off Middle River. Our service center currently has two Mercury/Volvo Penta-certified technicians. Certifications are a plus but not required for this position. An applicant that shows a strong work ethic and a wants to advance, will have an opportunity to earn certifications through our organization.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on all types of marine engines, including outboards, and inboards.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Communicate with boat owners and other team members to ensure that repairs are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to test and repair boat engines Inboard-Outboard for service/warranty purposes.
  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, replace, remove, and install systems and components.
  • Conduct thorough assessment prior to starting a job including acknowledging the budgeted time vs actual time.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts used, time spent, and any additional repairs needed.
  • Ability to source/research parts needed or task.
  • Overall knowledge of marine systems including electrical, plumbing & water systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install vessel systems and components including but not limited to electrical, electronics, plumbing & water systems (fresh, salt, and waste), gas and diesel engines a plus.
  • Assign parts and purchases to the appropriate vessels/workorders.
  • Promote company products/services to meet customer needs.
  • Promptly provide the service department with repair orders for filing and recording.
  • Must possess own tools.
  • Follow TPG Safety and Environmental rules, willingness to take training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
  • Any other duties as assigned by TPG Marinas and the direct Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical school training preferred.
  • 5 years' experience preferred.
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred.
  • Technical outboard training/experience a plus
  • Must carry own tools.
  • Maintain training credentials.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Basic boat handling skills preferred.
  • Experience with both gas and diesel engines preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site at Sunset Harbor Marina as well as on-road service to TPG managed locations when requested.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Able to stand for extended periods and occasionally kneel, stoop, bend and twist in tight areas. Comfortability with ladders and confined spaces is required. Ability to work in the elements regularly. Repetitive hand motions and reaching above, in-front and below shoulder level are regular movements.
  • All candidates must be ready, willing, and able to work a fully flexible work schedule that may include days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet the fluctuating business demands.
