Summary: The Assistant Planner performs tasks in support of the administration of the Township’s land development policies. This individual will provide primary staff services to the Historic Preservation Commission and the Zoning Board of Adjustment and will provide assistant staff services to the Planning Board. Will conduct development plan reviews, project management tasks, and preparation of zoning ordinances. Work is performed under general direction from the Township Director of Planning and Community Development, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.
Duties: Reviews variance applications and prepares legal notices and memoranda for Board of Adjustment Meetings; Coordinates and attends meetings of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, including preparation of meeting agendas, minutes, resolutions for bulk variance applicants, and annual reports; Reviews construction permits and development applications involving historic districts and historic sites for compliance with zoning and historic preservation ordinances; serves as the Historic Preservation Officer and provides initial contact for processing Certificate of Appropriateness applications and referrals to the Historic Preservation Commission. Coordinates and attends meetings of the Historic Preservation Commission, including compiling minutes, agendas, and resolutions; maintains the Township’s GIS maps and databases; assists with updates and maintenance of the Master Plan and land development regulations; attends evening meetings whenever necessary.
Requirements: Master's Degree in Urban Planning or related field from an accredited college or university preferred. Four (4) years of professional experience may be substituted for the master’s degree requirement. Historic preservation experience preferred. Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, database management, and GIS programs, including ESRI Desktop applications and ArcGIS online, is required. Qualified candidate must possess either a current valid license as a Professional Planner as issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Planners or be able to acquire a license within one year.
Salary Range: $86,827 - $118,438; includes benefits.
