Town of Surfside is Hiring a Building Official Near Surfside, FL

JOB
Under the general supervision of the Town Manager, responsible for technical supervisory work enforcing building inspections and plan review to ensure compliance with existing codes, ordinances and statues.
The preferred candidate must be able to:
Enforce building and zoning codes.
Examine building plans and construction methods to ensure compliance with building codes.
Issues Permits.
Review proposed alternative methods and materials from design professionals, builders and homeowners.
Issue "Notice of Violations" and/or “Stop Work Orders” for breaches of the building code.
Review construction values on all permit applications.
Interpret the Florida Building Code for Plans Examiners and inspectors.
Instruct permit technicians on permitting procedures.
Consult with design professionals and clarify building code provisions.
Develop new forms and departmental procedures.
Supervise the scanning of all building plans.
Assist other departments with construction related issues.
Assist other departments with explanation and clarification of the Town's Code of Ordinances.
Develop short- and long-range strategic business plan.
Attend Town Commission meetings, monthly Planning & Zoning meetings, and other meetings as required; takes necessary action regarding agenda items.
May function in any emergency management role or capacity in the Incident Command System (ICS) to include Logistics, Operations, and Planning.
Ensure FEMA compliance with rules of the National Flood Insurance Program and other FEMA regulations.
Coordinate, implement, and maintain the Town’s workplace safety program (risk management program) and serves as the Town’s ADA coordinator.
Serve as the Floodplain Manager for the Town, as certified by the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).
Manage development in the Town to comply with NFIP Community Rating System (CRS) program.
Serve as the OSHA Construction Safety & Health Instructor.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering or related field and ten (10) years of experience within a construction related field as an inspector, engineer, architect, or general contractor within the high velocity zone. The successful candidate must be a State of Florida Certified Building Official through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and a Floodplain Manager (CFM).
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
Salary range: $116,686.42 - $151,692.34 DOQ/E Excellent benefits.
