TOWN OF PONCE INLET is Hiring a Law Enforcement Officer - $7,500 Sign-on Bonus Near Port Orange, FL

The position enforces state laws, traffic laws, and ordinances within Town limits while performing patrol activities. The position makes arrests, issues citations, conducts property checks and performs community policing activities. Reports to sergeant or corporal.

Essential Functions:

Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. The essential functions identified for this job are:

  • Patrols Town to preserve the peace, prevent and discover criminal acts and enforce laws and ordinances;
  • Actively support the agency’s community policing philosophy by interacting with members of the community on a continuing basis;
  • Provides services during community events such as traffic and crowd control; provides emergency services during power line failure or water main breaks;
  • Performs such enforcement activities, as conducting investigations, making arrests, issue citations, conducting property checks, completing required reports, checking residential and commercial properties for security and testifying in court as required;
  • Responsible for being knowledgeable of the crime problems in their work area and developing strategies to combat the problem;
  • Administers first aid, makes preliminary investigations, protects physical evidence, locates witnesses and make arrests at scenes of crimes or other incidents;
  • Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain information about crimes;
  • Collect and package evidence and testify as a witness in court;
  • Directs traffic, investigates accidents, recovers stolen property and automobiles, prepares detailed reports, gives advice and interprets laws and ordinances and provides general information to the public;
  • Report all conditions which may affect the community safety, including lighting changes, pedestrian and traffic obstacles, hazardous conditions, etc;
  • Operate a police vehicle, firearms, restraining devices, two-way radio, and other police-issued equipment including a computer, telephone, on-body camera, etc. Exercise care and safety in the use and maintenance of equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to learn modern police laws and ordinances;
  • Ability to perform sustained acts of physical exertion and endure entire periods of duty under unfavorable conditions;
  • Ability to write and speak effectively;
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisors;

High school Diploma or its equivalency. Must possess Florida law enforcement certification and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must demonstrate high moral character, public relation skills and reflect an exemplary record of service

Equipment: The employee uses a variety of office and computer equipment and related software. The employee uses and operates a variety of equipment related directly to the police profession and work responsibilities. The employee operates a vehicle.

Critical skills/expertise identified for this job include:

  • Knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures and the ability to comply with them in the performance of job responsibilities;
  • Knowledge of state laws, traffic laws, and Town ordinances and the ability to apply this knowledge when conducting traffic stops and traffic control activities as well as performing such enforcement activities and hours of construction for residential areas or businesses;
  • Ability to perform a variety of police related activities while following established policies, procedures and professional standards, included is radar operation during traffic control, bicycle patrol during special events for crowd control, marine patrol to enforce laws and maintain order while patrolling waterways, use of breathalyzer on DUI suspects, and conducting sex crime investigations;
  • Ability to communicate with citizens while performing enforcement and patrol activities, and community policing, as well as developing necessary reports;
  • Ability to apprehend, arrest and maintain custody of criminal suspects during the arresting process.
