Town of Plymouth is Hiring an Epidemiologist Near Plymouth, MA

The Town of Plymouth seeks applicants for the position of EPIDEMIOLOGIST for the Southern Plymouth County Public Health Excellence Collaborative which services the following towns: Carver, Duxbury, Kingston, Plymouth, Plympton, and Wareham.

Evaluates regional communicable and chronic disease data made available through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts surveillance systems, from other reliable sources, and/or implements primary data collection activities. Identifies factors that contribute to infectious and non-infectious diseases and helps to develop public health strategies to mitigate or eliminate the risks. Supports the development of public education materials. Works with municipalities, healthcare providers, and state authorities to surveil and report upon Notifiable Diseases (Infectious and Non-Infectious), and other relevant communicable and chronic diseases in the region. Develops protocols for epidemiologic activities and maintains secure databases of relevant public health information and supports public health preparedness and response activities. Develops and applies epidemiological approaches to understand and describe the distribution and determinants of disease and identify trends. Identifies needs, opportunities, and sources of data for further investigation in areas related to population-level health including heath equity, population groups that are typically difficult to assess, small-area estimation, and the role of the social determinants of health. Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related public health field; At least two years of professional work experience in public health, healthcare, or government at the state, county, or local level. Part-time work, internships, and volunteer experience may be used to meet the professional work experience requirement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements: MAVEN training within two (2) months of hire, a valid Class D motor vehicle license and use of a personal vehicle is required, as this position is required to travel to the six communities. The ability to use a translation application in multiple languages is necessary. Bilingual candidate is preferred. Foundations for Local Public Health Practice course within one (1) year of hire

Salary $72,000 - $78,000 annually based on experience and qualifications, 37.5 hours per week, benefit eligible, grant funded position. This posting will close on December 17, 2023.
