Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide transportation services to the public. Employees in this classification perform routine transport work. The position is responsible for transporting clients to bus route locations. Performs related work as directed.
· None.
· Follows a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers.
· Operates transit bus while in strict compliance with Town of Parachute policies, directive, procedures and all Federal and Colorado traffic laws and regulations.
· Collects fares and answers questions about the bus route.
· Communicates with the dispatcher during the route; provides updates to the dispatcher and reports emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents.
· Performs pre-trip inspection prior to schedules run.
· Performs post trip inspection internally and externally.
· Reports any mechanical issues with the bus such as brakes, steering, or other issues.
· Prepares an observation report when shift is finished.
· Delivers fares to the cashier office.
· Inspects vehicles and performs minor maintenance such as checking oil, fueling, and cleaning, sweeping and washing interior and exterior of vehicles.
· Checks vehicle equipment such as first aid box, and fire extinguisher.
· Picks up and discharges clients; assists clients needing special care.
· Coordinates with other drivers as required for special events or activities.
· Operates radios and telephones as required.
· Assists with training of new drivers.
· Loads and unloads packages.
· Provides assistance to wheelchair and other passengers, as needed.
· Prepares reports such as vehicle maintenance reports.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
· Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to six (6) months previous experience driving 15 or more passenger vehicles and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Ability to operate a bus safely.
· Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
· Excellent time management skills.

· Duties are primarily performed in a driving position.

Other Job Requirements:
· Must be 21 years of age.
· Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a P2 endorsement.
· Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification for a minimum of a 2-year qualifying period.
· Ability to pass a background check that is acceptable to the Town of Parachute.
· Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and random drug screens thereafter.
· CPR certified (must obtain within 3 months of hire).
