Expected Hiring Range: $50,821 - $57,173
Starting Salary Depending on Experience and Qualifications
The Town of Oro Valley Water Utility seeks a highly motivated, hard-working dependable results driven individual with a strong background in industrial instrumentation and control to work in the Water Control Systems Department. The successful candidate will report to the Water Control Systems Supervisor and be expected to work collaboratively with other water operations staff.

Under general supervision, performs routine, skilled electrical maintenance, repairs, and construction of new electrical and control systems for water equipment.
 
  • Follows and practices NFPA 70B and NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Formulates new standard operating procedures and records As-Built modifications.
  • Installs a variety of new and replacement electrical, instrumentation & control equipment at water facilities.
  • Installs, calibrates, and performs maintenance of DC solar systems and components.
  • Keeps tools and equipment in good condition and has tools repaired as necessary.
  • Maintains and is accountable for assigned tools and equipment.
  • Maintains detailed records on equipment repaired, time spent and material usage.
  • Observes safe work methods and safety practices related to the work, cones and flags work sites to secure from traffic, and uses appropriate safety equipment.
  • Performs daily electrical, instrumentation & control system preventative maintenance of the water systems.
  • Reads and interprets maps, schematics, plans, blueprints and specifications.
  • Recognizes abnormal operating equipment and uses troubleshooting methods and skills to diagnose, analyze and make required repairs.
  • Responds to emergency situations during off hours as required.
  • Works safety with a variety of voltages up to 300VDC and up to 480VAC.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication. 
  • Ability to effectively manage the utility’s Lock-out/Tag-out program. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled, complex, and technical electrical repairs and maintenance of equipment related to the operation of the water systems. 
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand manuals, blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and electrical drawings. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot, operate and properly repair electrical, instrumentation and control systems, programmable logic controllers, troubleshoot communication problems with remote programmable logic controller sites and to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. 
  • Ability to understand and enforce the Uniform Building Code, the National Electric Code, and NFPA 70B and NFPA 70E requirements. 
  • Knowledge of applicable Town, State and Federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations governing the water utility. 
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to the use of computer hardware and software. 
  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures. 
  • Skill in diagnosing problems, recognizing worn or damaged parts and rebuilding equipment in field situations. 
  • Skill in digital and analog Volt-Ohm meters, Megohm-meters, Oscilloscopes, Rotation meters, Power Quality Monitors, Ammeters, Pressure Calibrators, Milliamp simulators, motor winding testers, power tool fault analyzers, and cable/conduit locators.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
 
  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of electrical, instrumentation & control equipment in a public water utility.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • Must obtain a Grade 1 Water Distribution certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within one (1) year of hire date.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
 
  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding activities including climbing ladders, lifting, and carrying heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds. 
  • Must be able to work under routine and emergency conditions and perform a wide variety of physically strenuous tasks sometimes in severe weather.
  • Position is subject to after-hours call out 24/7.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
