Town of Millsboro is Hiring a Police Officer Near Millsboro, DE

We are always looking for qualified individuals to serve as police officers. All applications need to be completed and sent to the Millsboro Police Department. Finding high caliber individuals to join our organization is a priority. Recruitment and retention are a full time commitment, from the day a recruit officer reports to the academy to the day he/she completes field training is usually no less than nine months. When the hiring process and field training are factored into this timeline, it takes about a year to hire a new police officer.

The hiring process to become an officer is an extremely competitive endeavor that requires our agency to identify the most highly qualified applicants for employment. An overwhelming number of qualified applicants will be competing for a limited number of positions. Our community expects and demands that we employ only those individuals who possess the highest degree of impeccability in terms of personal background, judgment, maturity, integrity, and credibility.

The academy atmosphere is tough, it is extremely physical and the academic portion is substantial. If you graduate from the academy, and many do not, you will need to complete at least 12 weeks of field training. You will be assigned to work with seasoned officer trainers that will critique every move you make. Many prospective officers do not complete field training; the constant and relentless critique process and the stress often lead to a washout or dismissal.

Once a new officer has completed field training they are placed on a shift, officers will work 12 hour shifts. Shifts run from 6 am to 6 pm and from 6 pm to 6 am, officers are required to work holidays and weekends. They are required to report for court on their days off and complete routine certifications, rain or shine.

This is a tough business, but it is also very rewarding. It won’t be easy, it will take a long time and it will require you to make substantial personal sacrifices. Don’t quit, work hard, and be honest. There are no short cuts; you must complete this process to become a police officer.
