Town of Holly Springs is Hiring an Utility Technician I/II/III-Stormwater Near Holly Springs, NC

This position would perform tasks in the maintenance and repair of stormwater infrastructure such as storm drains, stormwater piping systems, stormwater manholes, dissipators, catch basins, ditches, and culverts. Work includes cleaning, repair, and installation of stormwater infrastructure as well as regular clearing of sediment and organic debris. Work also involves special projects and related tasks to improve system performance. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Stormwater Crew Leader and is inspected for compliance with established standards. Starting salary $40,546 (grade C) depending on relevant work experience. Work schedule is business hours with on-call rotation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a team member of stormwater technicians that must perform all tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to operate a database to check work orders and data entry.
  • Daily, mobilize to job site safely and proficiently operate storm-water pipe and basin cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Perform equipment maintenance required to keep pipe cleaning equipment and tools in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs.
  • Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all appropriate times.
  • Performing vehicle and equipment pre/post trip inspections; monitoring and replenishing fluids; performing basic corrective repairs.
  • Ability to be proficient in the operation of Combination Jet/Vacuum truck as well as able to drive dump trucks regularly.
  • Communicating work-related needs and issues to crew leader and supervisors by providing updates regarding the status of open work orders and construction, maintenance, and/or facility tasks.
  • Knowledge of DOT traffic laws and requirements applicable to heavy equipment operation.
  • Assisting with traffic control device installation and flagging operations for stationary and moving work zones and ensuring proper setup.
  • Performing manual labor on projects by assisting in excavation work by hand digging ditches and trenches; backfilling; compacting and leveling earth to required grade; construction landscaping.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience of equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience in a utility setting.
  • Able to obtain a A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within six months to a year from employment and a satisfactory driving record
  • Must complete job-related and/or safety training based on assignment, such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out, confined space entry, ladder safety, IMSA signs and markings level II certification, work zone safety, respirator, and emergency evacuation training.
