This position will work within the Public Works Department- Facilities Division providing direct oversight and leadership to the facilities team as they perform maintenance and repairs to town facilities, assets, and infrastructure. This role will be performed as a hands-on working supervisor. Work schedule is business hours with occasional evenings and weekends. Competitive annual starting salary is $60,978.59, pay grade J.

What you will bring to our Public Works Team:

Position requires a high school diploma, undergraduate degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing or another related field or operations management preferred. 3 -5 years’ supervisory or leadership experience. Valid NC Driver’s License, five years of experience maintaining buildings, facilities, and/or equipment in an industrial environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

What you will be doing:

  • Directs the work of and manages assigned crews.
  • Provides training and instructions and ongoing training needs. Assigns tasks, reviews work and provides performance evaluation feedback.
  • Provides input into employee transfers, promotions, disciplinary action, and discharge. Reviews and approves time sheets, job assignment sheets.
  • Utilizes Cityworks, the town’s GIS-centric asset lifecycle management platform, to plan, manage, and optimize facility maintenance and repair activities.
  • Operates and maintains equipment, facilities, and systems to ensure a safe environment of care; accurately records and reports work performed.
  • Performs general residential/commercial maintenance including fabrication, installation and inspections of equipment and devices in multi-use facilities environments.
  • Performs periodic inspections of facilities/building, directly related infrastructures, and makes recommendations on needed repairs, installation, etc.; adheres to trade practices and codes.
  • Plans and prioritizes necessary maintenance, and repair in accordance with Department policies. Ensures all work is completed accurately and timely.
  • Secures supplies, materials, and equipment for daily work projects. Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all Town safety regulations; ensures equipment is safely operated and driving laws are obeyed; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
  • Performs daily inspections of the crews/project, reporting any issues to the Manager concerning safety or repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains, monitors and tests equipment such as air compressors, emergency generators, fire alarm systems, etc.
  • Maintains computerized heating and cooling systems, jail security systems, building security systems, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, compressor, and pneumatic controls, etc.
  • Researches, secures, and manages all needed repair supplies and equipment for all Town facilities. Responds to and calls out after-hours on-call crews for emergency requests.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints from the public on a wide range of areas. Monitors budget, contracts, services, costs, and other factors throughout the year to identify problem areas and recommend adjustments.
