Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
All Lifeguards must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Lifeguards must be able to pass a practical skills test in the water, and written test.
Individuals must be willing to work weekends and Holidays during the season. Time off is to be scheduled and approved in advance.
Under the immediate supervision of superiors; safeguard bathers, prevent submersion and other accidents by minimizing or eliminating dangerous situations and assist bathers in distress.Rescue and proficiently perform CPR in cases of asphyxia.Administer standard first aid; maintain safety equipment and requisition first aid supplies as needed. Safeguard and regulate the conduct of patrons in order to prevent accidents and drowning.Be alert in order to note bathers in distress and process immediately to their rescue and effect resuscitations, if necessary.Maintain a watchfulness over bathers and avoid prolonged conversation with the public or other distracting influences.Educate and enforce all bathing safety rules and regulations and Town Beach ordinances.Perform other similar or related duties as required or assigned.Check beach for glassware, sharps, medical waste and floatables. Perform the maintenance duties required for the safe and healthy operation of the swimming facility.Fill out and submit to Caretaker, or Lifeguard Supervisor/Pool Manager all necessary reports including rescue, accident or pool log reports.APPAREL:
Lifeguards will be provided with uniforms that must be worn while on duty. The fanny pack is part of the uniform. It must be stocked and worn while on duty. Lifeguard uniforms must be kept neat and clean.
Lifeguards will be expected to act in an alert, efficient, and courteous manner. Sleeping on the job is prohibited. Personnel are prohibited from possessing, consuming or using alcohol and/or controlled substances in the workplace. Personnel are prohibited from being under the influence of alcohol and /or controlled substances in the workplace. Personnel will be subject to pre-employment drug testing that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana). The Town may require an employee to submit to a substance abuse screening test while on duty if there is reasonable cause to believe that the employee is in violation of the Town's alcohol and drug-free workplace policy.Temporary
