General Statement of Duties

Provides management of student behavior in the cafeteria during lunch time, under the supervision of the school principal.
Schedule is approximately 3 hours a day during student lunch time, five days a week, for a total of 15 hours. The exact hours depend on the individual school and their lunch time schedule.

Qualifications

Must be able to read English. No Previous experience is required. Must be free from communicable diseases.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to relate pleasantly but firmly with children
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to read, understand and explain to children the daily menu and prices.
Ability to learn, understand and monitor compliance of basic federal, state and local requirements which must be followed by students when participating in the National School Lunch Program of the Greenwich Public Schools.
Ability to make minor decisions according to federal state and local laws and regulations and according to established school and department policies.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, school staff, students and the general public.
Must be able to stand and walk around at an assigned cafeteria location and work continuously for extended periods of time.
Must be able to clean up spills on tables and chairs ranging in height from 12" to 36' from the floor.

Job Description

Maintains an orderly and safe cafeteria environment consistent with procedures and techniques outlined by Board of Education policies.
Maintains order in the lunch line, assists students in choosing food and supervises traffic flow to keep the line moving smoothly; supervises student's behavior; assists students in opening juice containers, milk containers, etc.
Notifies students when snacks are being sold and supervises behavior during this activity.
Maintains sanitary health standards in cafeteria eating areas; keeps condiment area orderly; cleans off tables and chairs between lunch periods and wipes tables with sanitizing solutions; monitors disposal of garbage.
Maintains good working relations with the cafeteria, in the school and in the community.
Assists in selling milk and/or snacks in the cafeteria when possible.
Assists in restocking condiments and napkins when possible.
Attends staff meetings and in-service training as required.
Performs related work as assigned.

Supplemental Information

All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations for all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.All new hires at the Board of Education will also be subject to a background check in compliance with CT Public Act 16-67.
