The Town of Farmville is seeking potential candidates for the position of a full-time Firefighter. Deadline to apply is May 31st, 2024.
Applicants must be certified as Firefighter 1 and EMT-B, and have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a career or volunteer Firefighter. Applicants must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and meet all of the minimum qualifications required of the position. Successful applicants will pass a background investigation, substance abuse screening, job related testing and physical examination, as well as a panel interview.

Certification: Valid driver’s license by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness Operation, EVOC 1,2, and 3, EMT-B, and NIMS 100, 200, 700. Must obtain Firefighter 2 and basic pump operations within 12 months hire.
Job Summary: Performs responsible protective service work during fire suppression and other emergency situations, and work as an EMS first responder in providing pre-hospital emergency medical care to the sick and injured.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
· Responds to alarms, drives and operates apparatus and related equipment, assists in the suppression of fires, including entry, advancing lines, rescue, ventilation, salvage work and extrication.
· Extricates victims from automobile wrecks, collapsed structures, etc.
· Performs salvage and overhaul services, established temporary utility service.
· Responds to non-emergency calls and conducts other non-emergency service calls as necessary.
· Prepares reports and maintains records of fire apparatus and EMS responses, prepares routine incident, and maintenance reports.
· Participates in continuing training and instructional programs through individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes in emergency medical treatment and fire suppression practices.
· Assists in maintaining and repairing fire and emergency medical equipment, all apparatus, and cleaning the station and grounds.
· Perform fire prevention duties as assigned.
