Town of Dayton, Indiana is Hiring an Utility Clerk Near Dayton, IN

Job Title: Utility Clerk - Town of Dayton, Indiana

Compensation: Starting at $15.00 per hour

Work Hours: Weekday hours aligning with Town Hall operations, as directed by the Clerk-Treasurer, not exceeding 30 hours weekly.

Supervisor: Clerk-Treasurer

Job Summary:
Execute office tasks under the guidance of the Clerk-Treasurer in the day-to-day functioning of the Town Hall. Provide a courteous and welcoming experience for all customers. Manage cash, checks, and credit card transactions, including deposit preparation. Conduct computer-based tasks, such as data entry, word processing, and spreadsheet management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; capable of document and spreadsheet creation.
  • Willingness to learn the Keystone Accounting program.
  • Familiarity with accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Cash-handling ability, including accurate change-making.
  • Capable of balancing a cash drawer.
  • Accurate completion of required data entry and reports.
  • Ability to create and balance bank deposits.
  • Excellent communication skills for customer, council, and staff interactions.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Successful completion of drug and alcohol testing.
  • Clear criminal background check.
  • Ability to be bonded.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to specified procedures outlined by the Indiana State Board of Accounts.
  • Address correspondence as directed by the Clerk-Treasurer.
  • Establish new accounts, process service changes, and calculate meter deposit refunds.
  • Prepare monthly Utility billing.
  • Generate delinquency and shut-off notices.
  • Act as the receptionist at Town Hall.
  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and assist in customer service and public relations.
  • Take messages for Council and staff as necessary.
  • Maintain office professionalism consistently.
  • Accept Utility deposits and payments, issue receipts, and maintain accurate records.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as instructed by the Clerk-Treasurer.
  • Conduct light cleaning at the Town Hall.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 30 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
