TOWN OF DAVIE is Hiring an Engineer II - Utilities Near Davie, FL

Under limited supervision, performs civil engineering work in the planning, design, inspection, construction and maintenance of utilities projects and facilities. Work involves capital improvement projects, including water and sewer treatment facilities and underground infrastructure for drinking water distribution and collections system and lift stations, as well as related regulatory projects. Emphasis of the work is in the construction management. Responsibilities include interpretation of plans and specifications for utility standards conformity and conflict resolution, onsite monitoring of the work, analyzing special conditions/circumstances which arise on the projects, assisting with solving difficult or unusual construction problems approval of minor design changes, change orders, payment requests. Also coordinates and reviews design and construction of private projects to ensure compatibility with Town ordinances and Utilities Standards. Is responsible for closely inspecting projects under construction and ensuring facilities are maintained in accordance with the proper engineering practices and techniques. Reports to Utilities Director or designee.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field;
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the design and construction of public works projects.
Additional qualifying experience beyond two (2) years may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
PREFERRED: 
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training in the State of Florida or ability to obtain same within one year of employment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares and checks preliminary and final plans, designs and permits for a variety of private and public utilities projects; prepares reports and makes recommendations relating to the conduct of engineering activities.
  • Reviews subdivisions, site, construction plans and specifications for code conformance to established Town and Utility standards, policies, and best engineering practices.
  • Provides coordination and supervision to the activities of consultant personnel engaged in the design and inspection of utilities capital improvement construction projects; trains personnel in inspection and materials testing procedures and techniques; participates in the inspection of projects for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Provides contractors, consultants, and other Town departments and the public with technical information relating to Utility projects.
  • Investigates requests for changes or additions to utility capital and or engineering, responding, or forwarding to Broward County or State officials as necessary.
  • Assist with reviews for substantial completion and final acceptance, inspections, and inspection reports; assists with warranty administration; screens complaints and coordinates correction.
  • Assist with verification and approval of contractor and consultant pay requests and invoices.
  • Assists in the formulation of long-range programs of utilities facilities; performs special research and investigations pertaining to utility functions.
  • Participates in preparing engineering specifications, contracts and bid specifications for utility engineering and related projects.
  • Assists with special investigations, site analyses and feasibility studies as required and submits technical and management reports.
  • Meets with consultants, contractors, utility organizations, city, state, federal agencies, civic associations, business and community leaders, property owners and attorneys.
  • Assist with the preparation of the budget for capital expenditures and grant funded projects.
