1st Class Lineworker
The Town of Concord is currently seeking an experienced Lineworker – Grade 1.The successful candidate will provide field services related to installation, repair and maintenance of the Town’s overhead and underground transmission/distribution system. Must possess the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, ability to follow established safety protocols in all aspects of the job and excellent communication & customer service skills; thorough job knowledge of utility construction techniques and of the methods, materials, and tools used in electrical construction and maintenance work; thorough knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations; ability to read and comprehend construction drawings.
Requires equivalent to HS diploma, completion of apprenticeship program & minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible related electric line experience. Must possess Class A Massachusetts CDL License as well as Class 1B, & 2A or 2B Hoisting License. Drug/alcohol screening is a condition of employment. Full salary range $55.75 – $60.37 per hour; starting pay will depend on qualifications.

Department: Concord Municipal Light Plant Salary Grade: LP-10 Reports To: Lead Lineworker FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Appointed by: Town Manager Date: July 2023 GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Line Supervisor, performs high level skilled technical work in operating, maintaining, and repairing the electrical systems for the Town. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures. Individual is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring flexibility in approach to workload. External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Provides functional oversight to lower grade Line Workers when involved with high voltage lines. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Concord’s policies and applicable laws. Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights and in cramped conditions, and lift tools required to perform jobs. Physical exertion may be heavy at times. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required. Majority of work is performed outdoors subject to extreme weather conditions, extreme noise, confined and hazardous spaces and extreme height. Work is frequently near high voltage lines, requiring the use of caution. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges. Must be able to sustain extreme physical effort. Works in overhead bucket truck standing for many hours at a time. Must be able to lift, pull, turn, stretch and use heavy equipment while high in the air. Assembles stock, moves bulk cable, digs, pulls rope and steel cable and lifts manhole covers, all while dealing with ground traffic and pedestrians. Operates a wide variety of motorized equipment, including light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, power/hand tools, and diagnostic testing equipment. Concord, signifying agreement and harmony, was incorporated as the first inland settlement in Massachusetts through a grant from the Massachusetts General Court dated September 12, 1635. As the scene of the first battle of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775, it is considered the birthplace of the nation, where the shot heard round the world for liberty and self government was fired. Located 20 miles west of Boston, Concords population has remained stable at 16,000 over the past several decades. It is a picturesque New Engl...and community of handsome residences, preserved open spaces, family-owned farms and thriving commercial centers. The town is served by MBTA commuter rail to Boston, Cambridge and Fitchburg; and a commuter bus to Boston. State highway Rt. 2 runs through Concord, and Routes 128/95 and 495 are easily accessible. Concord has an Open Town Meeting and a five member Select Board/Town Manager form of government. The Concord Municipal Light Plant distributes electricity, enabling rates to be lower and service more reliable than investor owned utilities. Concord Public Works provides water to most of the Town, with about one-third of the homes connected to town sewer. Police and Fire Departments are full time and emergency ambulance service is provided by the Concord Fire Department. The K-12 public school system includes three elementary schools, one middle school (on two campuses), and a regional high school with the Town of Carlisle. Concord is also a member of the Minute Man Regional School District, with a campus located in neighboring Lexington, offering an alternative high school in Applied Arts & Sciences to residents. Private schools located in Concord include Fenn School, Nashoba Brooks, Concord Academy, and Middlesex School.
