The Basic Life Support Provider performs responsible protective services work providing emergency medical care at the scene of an injury or illness and during transport to medical facilities. The Basic Life Support Provider supervises rescue units on calls; drives and operates EMS and Rescue vehicles and assists in the maintenance and repair of station and equipment. The BLS Provider must work well with other emergency services personnel often under hazardous and stressful conditions, responding promptly to directions given by the on-site supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS• Works at stations responding to calls for emergency assistance. May act as supervisor of the rescue unit on calls
• Provides emergency medical services using basic life support and stabilization procedures at the scene of the accident or illness and during transport to medical facilities
• Provides emergency medical services at special events sponsored by or supported by the Town
• Performs rescue from life threatening situations and assists in the protection of property
• Drives emergency vehicles. Operates biomedical and other equipment on emergency vehicles. Coordinates the replenishing of medical supplies and performs required vehicle maintenance following each call and as directed
• Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports on all emergency responses and patient encounters utilizing the department’s electronic patient care reporting systems or other methods as directed
• Provides emergency medical services training to schools, organizations and the public as requested
• Monitors health, safety and the physical condition of personnel at fires or other hazardous sites
• Performs other duties as required
