LSE Lead Camp Counselor

Hourly Rate: $15.50/hour
Open Until Filled: Open until filled, position may close without notice.
SCHEDULE: Positions are scheduled during the hours of 8:30am – 2:30pm Monday thru Friday; 7 non-consecutive weeks during the fall and spring. Prepares, leads and actively participates in arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor team sports activities, group games and /or other activities. This position is part-time and does not qualify for benefits. Track Out Camp will be located at the John M. Brown Community Center.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (DESCRIPTION):
In this position, you will serve as a Co-Lead Camp Counselor for our Fun Days Track Out camp serving school ages participants in a recreational setting. Track Out Camp runs Monday – Friday from 9am – 2pm for 7 non-consecutive weeks during the fall and spring. You will be responsible for greeting parents and campers, providing excellent customer service, oversee and actively participate with groups during passive/active games, arts and crafts, clinics, science and nature, and more.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tracks and maintains camp supply inventory and makes supply order requests as needed.
  • Responsible for submitting staff timesheets to Recreation Program Supervisor.
  • Responsible for submitting staff and activity schedules to Recreation Program Supervisor.
  • Actively leads participants in recreation and leisure activities.
  • Maintains clean work and play areas.
  • Serves snack/meals to participants.
  • Monitors campers who have special medical needs.
  • Administers first aid and properly documents each incident.
  • Identifies unsafe situations and work hazards, corrects them if possible and reports them to their supervisor.
  • Enforces camp rules; documents incidents if needed.
  • Carries out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town policies; follows safety procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Reports directly to Recreation Program Supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Town and department policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • General Town safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to apply and administer first-aid and CPR.
  • Ability to observe and work with large groups of children.
  • Follow directions; enforce rules.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Possess good customer service skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is typically performed while walking, standing, running, bending, crouching or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy objects.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 17 years or older at the time of employment.
  • Experience working with children ages 6-11.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Preferred candidates will be CPR and first-aid certified and have previous experience in a camp setting.
