Job Description

Job Title: Valve Technician

Department: PRV FLSA Job Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Total Valve Systems

POSITION SUMMARY: The Valve Technician will perform hands on maintenance, manual machining, welding, troubleshooting / assessment, and repair work on valves based on the associated skill level, traveling to and from customer sites and service center; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Basic Manual Machine experience
  • Interface with customer personnel to perform hands-on workshop and / or on-site valve troubleshooting / assessment, maintenance, testing (pre / post), and / or repair of valves.
  • Perform PSV testing utilizing certified test equipment and complete all QA / QC documentation as required by the VR program (if skilled).
  • Perform hands-on workshop and / or on-site disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, and reassembly or valves. Machine material and / or parts with various machining equipment.
  • Ensure work and used materials are in compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, and reassembly as required including completion of applicable quality documentation in either paper or electronic form.
  • Perform failure assessments and make recommendations to the on-site supervisor as required.
  • Perform day-to-day and routine safety observations and inspections.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains safe operations by keeping work area clean and organized and by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing basic preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; initiating repair work orders.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing required paper and/or electronic logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Participate in required meetings and training.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Trade School diploma / certification or equivalent years of experience.
  • Manual Machine experience a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills for daily interaction with customers and fellow employees.
  • Understanding of pressure and ability to service valves in a production environment.
  • Familiar with PRV terminology and definitions
  • Basic understanding of electrical wiring schematics and the ability to read and interpret maintenance and repair manuals for use in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical assemblies
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to maximize efficiency
  • Operational experience in the oil and gas industry with respect to system operations and valves a plus

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals and blueprints.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as basic fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Computer & Software Skills:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to generate service reports and communicate within the company including skills to navigate web-based service literature and programs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose systemic problems.
  • Willing to be trained in skills other than the primary skill
  • Additional mechanical skills including but not limited to machining and welding

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10% - 50% to customer sites, local, out of town and or state, some pre-planned turnaround service jobs may require up to 4 weeks of travel.
  • Weekend availability a must for this 24/7 customer service position
