Job Description

Torch is seeking an engineer with experience in design and or production of aircraft propulsion systems. A successful candidate will have supported the design development process of propulsion systems including design, test, qualification, and/or manufacturing. A successful candidate will understand the theory and operation of aircraft propulsion systems and support analysis of the technical performance of a system. The person selected for the position will learn about the design currently being developed and become the program office’s subject matter expert for the propulsion system.

The U.S. Air Force is developing a new Long-Range Stand-Off (LRSO) nuclear missile. The service plans to field the LRSO by 2030 to replace the current, General Dynamics (now Raytheon) AGM-129A Advanced Cruise Missile (ACM) that originally entered service in 1991. In May 2021, the Air Force awarded an Engineering and Manufacturing Design (EMD) contract to Raytheon Missiles and Defense, Tucson, Arizona. The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division (AFNWC/NDB), which is resident at Eglin AFB, Florida, is the System Program Office (SPO) responsible for the acquisition.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Analyze propulsion system performance against system requirements.

  • Provide critical feedback on test plans and periodically travel to test sites to ensure testing meets standards and obtains the data necessary to validate performance.

  • Review test reports for completeness and accuracy to meeting test objectives.

  • Evaluate the design contractor’s proposals for completeness and technical accuracy.

  • Estimate risks and opportunities of technical and programmatic challenges.

  • Review contractor provided drawings and specifications for clarity and completeness.

  • Work with the contractor to ensure the product documentation is complete and meets requirements.

  • Ensure adequate planning, readiness, and closeout of system engineering technical reviews.

  • Evaluate trade studies and advise the program leadership about risks and impacts to supportability, cost, and schedule.

  • Write, coordinate, and maintain program documentation.

  • Prepare reports and presentations and give technical presentations for program leadership.

Job Requirements

Desired Experience/Qualification

  • Project management and systems engineering experience is beneficial.

  • Experience in a program office is desired.

  • Current DOD Secret Clearance (or US Gov equivalent), must be TS eligible

  • Have 5 years of experience at a minimum.

  • More experience is welcome and there may be opportunity to grow this position to a principal engineer if a candidate with significant experience in relevant work is found.

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field; Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Aeronautical Engineering (BSEE)

This position requires candidates to possess a current SECRET security clearance in order to access classified information. Inability to maintain a SECRET security clearance will result in a candidate being ineligible for this position.
