Job Summary: 

The Technical Service Engineer is responsible for handling projects in product development, product enhancement, and continuous improvement for Toray Resin Co.’s, products, and compounds under some guidelines from a senior technical member or a supervisor. He/she also supports customers’ development programs and help customers solve their issues in using Toray products. He/she will work closely with technical members, customers, Sales, QC, operations, Toray Head Quarter in Japan as well as with outside vendors and agencies to ensure new products (and product improvements) meet customer expectations, physical performance criteria, and agency regulations (when applicable) and to satisfy customers’ needs in technical supporting. The position will mainly support the customers base in North America region (US, Canada, Mexico). 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Responsible for providing technical expertise to our customers for engineering thermoplastic compounds used in a broad and diverse applications and market spaces. 
• Supports the development of new products and/or applications in those market spaces where our products add value. 
• Develops and/or optimizes new ETP products and formulations. 
• Supports Continuous improvement of existing compounded products in terms of product performance, line output, uptime, scrap reduction, product life, process centering. 
• Supports the selection and qualification of new raw materials and raw material suppliers. 
• Identifies and develops test methods and test equipment in the technical department. 
• Assist customers’ development programs and help customers in production issues. 
• Develop and maintain knowledge of ETP compounding technology (materials, products, and manufacturing processes). 
• Supports operations on all aspects of ETP product manufacturing as required. 
• Involvement in product testing and approval from outside agencies (i.e., UL, FDA, etc.). 
• Spend about 30% of time to travel to the customers and suppliers. 

Qualifications: 

• BS/master’s degree in engineering, Chemistry, Plastics or Polymer Science is highly preferred; post graduate degree is a plus. 
• Experience studying polymer chemical and physical behaviors to enable materials working knowledge of analytical techniques standard to materials characterization. 
• Solid scientific background and proven high levels of performance in related fields. 
• Demonstrated ability to listen to customers' needs, develop solutions to meet their requirements, trust, and respect. 
• Must be capable of handling multiple projects/tasks at the same time and must have hands-on experience and execute project independently without the need of supervision. 
• Professional certification(s) in relevant fields preferable.
