HERFF JONES, 3D Designer II – Warwick, RI
The 3D Designer II will be responsible for the design and creation of three-dimensional (3D) models based on a client's specifications and requirements to support the Herff Jones Jewelry product division in Warwick, RI. This individual’s duties will include developing a 3D design for new products, reviewing and enhancing the 3D design of existing products, and understanding project requirements. Using computer-aided design (CAD) tools, this individual will develop a design layout for complex projects as well as primary models and sketches for final product design. As a 3D designer, this person is also responsible for participating in brainstorming sessions and team meetings. A strong focus on quality, detail, and an ability to balance priorities is key to operating successfully in the role. The 3D Designer II reports to the Jewelry Art Department Manager.
KEY REPONSIBILITIES
  • Working knowledge of applying lighting, texturing, and utilizing 3D cameras to generate high quality renderings
  • Create conceptual layouts for project visualization
  • Convert 2D image sketch to 3D model.
  • Composite 3D renderings with 2D materials for marketing collateral
  • Utilize existing templates to create custom 3D designs from 2D designs
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, as well as new tools, techniques, and software
  • Develop rendering tools (environments, lighting, materials)
  • Continually develop best practices for 3D workflow
  • Ability to train new 3D artists
  • Willingness to travel for additional 3D industry training and discovery
  • Ability to create and render animations utilizing built models
  • Ability to develop conceptual CAD models for product development and iterate those models based on feedback
  • Execute all art processes thoroughly and correctly, prepared within production parameters according to department standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Collaborate with other artists and internal clients to complete art requests and ensure efficient, on-time delivery of artwork and designs
  • Other tasks as outlined by the Art Department Manager and Art Team Lead
CORE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of color theory, design, and printing methods are required
  • Strong technical abilities in Rhinoceros 3D or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Sketching and painting skills are necessary
  • Strong technical abilities in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Should have a strong working knowledge of the Windows and Apple operating systems
  • Microsoft Office 365 experience preferred
  • Strong creativity and design skills and be able to apply them in a timely manner at both workshops and in-plant production
  • Organized and detail-oriented; able to suggest process improvements where needed
  • Able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced setting; great time management skills
  • Self-motivated with little direction necessary; a desire to constantly learn and improve
  • Present a professional demeanor and wear proper dress attire
  • Willing and able to take on new responsibilities and tasks as requested
  • Must be able to work all hours as needed, including overtime and weekends
  • Assist co-workers, willingly share knowledge and work at any duty assigned in various departments
