Position Summary:

The Buyer plays a pivotal role in a corrugated manufacturing environment, responsible for procuring a wide range of consumables, plant supplies, equipment, parts, tooling, and other outsourced products from various suppliers. The primary objective is to ensure the consistent reliability, availability, and optimal quantities of stock and on-hand inventory to meet customer demands. The Buyer also collaborates with new suppliers to facilitate the completion of ISO Supplier Evaluation forms, enabling their inclusion on the Approved Vendor List. This role involves analyzing purchase requests, managing slow-moving inventory, and contributing to the efficient operation of the manufacturing plant.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Procurement: Source and procure a variety of consumables, plant supplies, equipment, parts, tooling, and outsourced products from multiple suppliers.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain appropriate stock levels to ensure reliable availability of materials and equipment when needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Supplier Evaluation: Collaborate with new suppliers to guide them through the ISO Supplier Evaluation process, facilitating their inclusion on the Approved Vendor List.
  • Purchase Analysis: Analyze each purchase request to assess the need, volume, price, and quantity of materials or products required.
  • Slow-Moving Inventory: Assist in addressing slow-moving inventory by implementing strategies to optimize inventory turnover.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that procured materials meet quality and performance standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of procurement transactions, supplier communications, and inventory levels.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms for the organization.
  • Vendor Relationship: Foster positive relationships with suppliers, collaborating to improve procurement processes and resolve issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement standards, and industry regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business with an emphasis on Purchasing is desired.
  • Alternatively, previous work experience and training may be considered as an acceptable equivalent based on the candidate's demonstrated experience.
  • 3 years of purchasing experience, preferably in a distribution environment, is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools is a plus.
  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision and effectively within a team-oriented environment is a must.
