Job Summary

As an Employment Development Specialist / Barista, you will play a dual role in our cafe and bakery. This position is not just about serving great food and coffee but also about imparting valuable job skills and ensuring the successful integration and retention of our trainees.

  • Position : Employment Development Specialist / Barista
  • Location : Hayes Valley Bakeworks, San Francisco
  • Schedule : Full-time, 40 hours per week with flexible scheduling required
  • Classification : Exempt
  • Reports To : Director of Employment and Training Programs

Key Responsibilities

Client Support : Train and mentor clients with disabilities, ensuring they achieve the highest degree of independence in their job roles.

Address issues impacting job readiness and performance, such as transportation and personal hygiene. Educate clients on their rights and self-advocacy.

  • Operational Excellence : Maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, cleanliness, and safety. Assist with various kitchen duties, prepare beverages and food orders, and manage inventory and equipment.
  • Team Collaboration : Work closely with management and staff at Toolworks and Bakeworks to enhance service delivery and client satisfaction.

Participate in team meetings and contribute to staff training and development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven kitchen and barista experience.
  • At least two years of experience working with adults with disabilities, preferably in a community setting.
  • Bilingual abilities in American Sign Language, Spanish, or Cantonese are a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
