Tompkins Community Bank is Hiring a Remote Personal Insurance Team Leader - Batavia, New York

Overview:

Responsible for performing a variety of duties including but not limited to developing and executing, in collaboration with the Personal Lines Manager, the strategic direction of the Personal Lines Department. Responsible for the overall recruiting, staffing, initial and on-going training of their team. Responsible for collaborating with the Personal Lines Management Team to develop and execute on strategies necessary to achieve Department goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct Supervision of the Personal Insurance Team.
  • Serve as a member of the Personal Insurance Management Team.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and customer service by monitoring and improving ongoing service delivery methods.
  • Participate in the development of the strategic direction and strategic initiatives of the Personal Insurance Department.
  • Provide technical expertise to the Personal Insurance Account Manager Team.
  • Oversee the training and development of the Personal Insurance Account Manager Team.
  • Provide assistance with marketing/placing of new business and renewals to the Account Managers.
  • Provide sales management assistance as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating and choosing appropriate companies for the agency. Once a company is appointed, assist in maintaining positive relationships with company representatives through ongoing contact, communication, and meetings.
  • Author and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Identify Performance Improvement Plan needs. Develop and execute Performance Improvement Plans, as needed. Recommend and execute terminations, as needed.
  • Assist in assessing staffing needs and recruitment of prospective employment candidates.
  • Meet with Carrier Representatives as need be.
  • Ensure direct reports are trained on the full utilization of the Automation System, Agency Procedures, and E&O guidelines
  • Stay informed regarding insurance technical knowledge, market trends (trade journals), agency automation, company information (bulletins and publications), and other operating techniques; and disseminate information to the Team as needed.
  • Receive and approve PTO requests, schedule appropriate coverage, maintain HRIS system, and manage overtime to agency/departmental guidelines.
  • Develop interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with internal and external personnel, and possess the ability to influence others.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook
  • Participate on the Procedures Committee of the Agency
  • Participate in the On-Call Schedule.
  • Participate in the periodic Personal Insurance Meetings
  • Act as liaison between agency and company to resolve customer issues. Maintain good company relationships.
  • Lead by example by participating in Joint Opportunity events, as schedule allows
  • Perform Special Projects at management’s request
  • To assist the Personal Insurance Manager in the overall direction and management of the Personal Insurance department in accordance with the goals, objectives, and policies of the agency.
  • To assist in maintaining strong and effective relationships with the business community, bank affiliates, and the insurance carriers we represent
Qualifications:
  • Two years experience in the insurance industry is desirable. Insurance Professional designation preferred.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills, a high analytical ability; a working knowledge of personal line account policies and procedures; moderate computer skills, including knowledge of on-line data system; visual and auditory skills; and valid and acceptable driver’s license.
  • Must hold or obtain a NYS Property and Casualty Insurance License.
  • Two year college degree is preferred
  • Must be assertive and a self-starter with the ability to influence others. Should have demonstrated effective presentation skills through both verbal and written communications.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multiple-task environment with a high-disruption rate.
    • Resolve conflict with minimum negative impact on all parties.
    • Work independently, prioritize work in order to meet goals in all areas
    • Must be a self-starter, with forward-thinking capabilities, and demonstrate good organizational skills.
    • Must be imaginative and creative with good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Should have a thorough understanding of Personal insurance underwriting and coverages.
    • Must possess strong supervisory skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. AMS/ImageRight experience is desirable.
