Toledo District Office is Hiring a TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR 2021-22 (#2156) Near TOLEDO, WA

Description of Position: The basic function of the Director of Transportation is to plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee all functions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the district transportation department.

Reports to: Superintendent

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Completion of, or currently enrolled, in the Central Washington University Pupil Transportation Management Program (or similar program)
  • Transportation related experience, preferably in public schools
  • Supervisory experience
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with appropriate school bus endorsements
  • Ability to create documents in Microsoft Word & Excel and knowledge of database systems

Goal:

Development and maintenance of a safe, efficient, and economical transportation system for all eligible students between home and school on a regular schedule and to and from school sponsored activities and to provide a safe efficient transportation program.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees all aspects of the district’s pupil transportation program including personnel, equipment, and facilities
  • Ensures the safe, efficient, and economical transportation of students
  • Supervises and evaluates all pupil transportation staff
  • Participates in the district management team and supports the district’s strategic plan and educational goals
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with school staff, parents, students, and the community

Essential Functions and Duties: This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individual assignments, the Director of Transportation performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Coordinates all bus routes, schedules, and stops
  • Coordinates student transportation activities in collaboration with school staff and other pertinent groups
  • Organizes continuing in-service and training programs for staff to ensure compliance with the law and to contribute to a positive learning climate
  • Drive the district area to assess road conditions during inclement weather
  • Collaborates with school officials in board approved student discipline procedures
  • Develops school bus specifications to meet the district’s needs and comply with state and federal requirements
  • Develops and forecasts pupil transportation budget requirements (STARS)
  • Administers the expenditure of funds as budgeted following district financial policies and procedures
  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and recommends candidates for employment in pupil transportation
  • Supervise training of pupil transportation personnel and other district personnel involved in driving district vehicles
  • Supervises the student transportation safety program
  • Supervises operational care, servicing, and maintenance of all district vehicles
  • Supervises school bus maintenance with specific attention to safety inspections
  • Purchase parts, materials, and supplies and maintains an inventory for efficient maintenance of district vehicles
  • Conducts accident investigations and supervises accident reporting to appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies
  • Maintains, documents, and submits monthly payroll and leave information for all pupil transportation staff
  • Represents the department and the district on various committees as needed
  • Advises the district on transportation policy and procedure
  • Administers collective bargaining agreements and advises on contract negotiations
  • Update Safe Walk Plan when needed as required by OSPI
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

Working Conditions: Working conditions may include but are not limited to:

  • High paced environment with constant interruptions
  • Requires a great deal of energy, flexibility, and patience to meet many and varied situations
  • Must feel comfortable dealing with a diverse range of behaviors which may include upset or distraught staff and community members
  • Work may require travel throughout the district in inclement weather
  • Includes exposure to fumes emitted from various diesel and gas fueled equipment
  • Working with chemicals associated with repair tasks
  • Exposure to various weather conditions not limited to freezing weather, snow, rain, wind, and heat
  • Significant physical abilities include moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling with near and far visual acuity

State/District Mandated Requirements:

  • Fingerprinting (cost paid by employee)
  • Provide proof of current First Aid/CPR card

Terms of Employment:

  • 245 days a year
  • Salary range $50,000-$60,000 a year, DOE
