Toledo Clinic is Hiring a PHLEBOTOMY LEAD - FULL TIME Near Toledo, OH

Supervision Exercised:

Laboratory employed phlebotomist.

General Summary:

The Toledo Clinic Phlebotomy Team Lead is responsible for productivity, quality, service, continuous improvement and staff development of phlebotomy employees with strict adherence to regulatory requirements. The Phlebotomy Team Lead is responsible for technical oversight of phlebotomy personnel and maintenance of policies, procedures, and quality control practices. The Phlebotomy Team Lead provides ongoing feedback, coaching/mentoring, and promoting continuing education. Provides feedback and works with the Administrative Lab Manager on completion of performance reviews.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for all daily phlebotomy operations. Which includes phlebotomy scheduling for Main Campus and all Satellite locations. Daily Phlebotomy operations include the TTC Lab phone. This phone is a call-in line/emergency that is carried by the Team Lead.
  2. Responsible for training, coaching, and development of staff. This includes initial, six month review and yearly phlebotomy competency for new staff and yearly phlebotomy competency for more tenured phlebotomist.
  3. Travels to all locations monthly for staff check in’s
  4. Responsible for CAP competency, training and Fire drills
  5. Performs monthly audits for staff performance accuracy
  6. Monitor on-going performance of employees, provides feedback and corrective action recommendations to Administrative Lab Manager . Performs six month and annual employee performance appraisals per Clinic or Laboratory policy along side Administrative Lab manager guidance.
  7. Performs timely attendance and timecard evaluations of assigned employees.
  8. Proficient and able to train staff on the AS-400, ECW, and PolyTech computer systems. This includes having a strong knowledge of basic patient registration. Phlebotomy Team Lead must be able to pass competency for each LIS system within 90 day of the start of employment.
  9. Oversee safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of facilities (includes upgrades, repair, etc.)
  10. Implement SOPs for phlebotomy services in accordance with Toledo Clinic Laboratory guidelines.
  11. Where applicable, ensures all Federal, State & Local licensure requirements are met, working with the Toledo Clinic QA and Laboratory Medical Director.
  12. Participates on process improvement teams or other initiatives to meet management objectives.
  13. Participates in the search, interviewing and hiring of new well qualified phlebotomist.
  14. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Required:

- Five (5) years of experience in clinical laboratory phlebotomy. 

- Knows, understands and adheres to all laboratory, Clinic and/or OSHA safety standards.

- Maintains a safe and clean environment by daily cleaning, emptying trash containers, and cleaning up spills and all other housekeeping duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area. 

- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis coding and laboratory CPT coding.

- Supports staffing by being able to work extended or altered hours when necessary.

- Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.

- Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.

- Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

Education:

Phlebotomy Certification

Preferred:

3 years Management experience, phlebotomy certification or medical technician. Blood drawing experience and 3 years management experience.
