Toledo Clinic is Hiring a MEDICAL ASSISTANT/ONCOLOGY - Toledo OH - FT, M-Th (8-4:30) Near Toledo, OH

 
 
Toledo Clinic's Oncology Department, located at 4126 N. Holland-Sylvania Rd in Toledo, is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant or Certified Patient Care Tech (CPCT/A) to provide clinical support in a very busy Oncology office. This position will work Monday-Thursday, 8:00-4:30, with no late evenings, weekends or holidays. Qualified candidates will have the RMA/CMA/CCMA credential or CPCT/A certification. Employee benefits, including health/dental/vision, PTO, Holiday Pay, 401-k, life insurance and disability coverage are offered.

Toledo Clinic is offering a $2,000 Sign-On Bonus to qualified Medical Assistants and Certified Patient Care Techs. Sign-On Bonuses are payable within 30 days of hire to employees that have active and verified credentials (ex: RMA/CMA/CCMA/CPCT/A). For candidates that have not yet obtained or need to renew their credential, the Sign-On Bonus is payable once the credential is obtained and verified. After one year of service, qualified Medical Assistants/Certified Patient Care Techs will be eligible for an additional $2,000 Retention Bonus.

General Summary:

This clinical position is responsible for controlling patient flow for physician/NP/Chemotherapy appointments. Is responsible for assisting physicians and NPs with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Is responsible for chart preparation for upcoming appointments. Is responsible to prepare the patient for the provider visit including collection and entry of vital signs, weight, and other pertinent clinical information needed for Meaningful Use and Review of Systems documentation. Is responsible for operation of the assigned office lab functions including venipuncture, runs, and documents lab tests/results

Supports the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by working with patients, families, providers and other staff to promote timely access to needed care, provide daily continuity of care coordination, and coach patients, families and care givers to understand the patient care plan and self-care management responsibilities.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Standard 1 – Clinical responsibilities

  • Control patient flow in assigned clinic to minimize patient wait time
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    1. Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
    2. Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
    3. Assisting patient as needed (walking, transfers, specimen collection)
    4. Collects patient information
      • Height, weight, allergies
      • Medication Reconciliation
      • Health Maintenance
      • Social, medical, surgical history
      • Review of Systems
  • Utilizes EMR to record patient specific data
  • Identifies trigger questions for Social Determinants of Health and notifies providers of needs
  • Performs venipuncture on patients as needed and sends timely
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned:
    1. Setting up and assisting with bone marrow procedures
    2. Cleans exam rooms between patient visits
    3. Cleans equipment 
    4. Verifies equipment is in working order and takes appropriate action if it is not
    5. Follows maintenance schedule for all biomedical equipment 
    6. Orders, sorts, and stores supplies
    7. Restocks exam rooms

Standard 2 – Clerical Responsibilities

  • Sends and receives patient medical records
  • Access all health system portals to obtain information
  • Chart preparation for upcoming visits
    • Obtaining lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information
    • Information related to hospital admissions
  • Coordinates with physicians re: missing test results to determine if appointment should occur
  • Completes forms and requisitions as needed

  • Understands any disclosure outside payment, treatment, or healthcare operations requires written patient authorization in each instance.

Required:

Medical Assistant degree or Patient Care Tech degree required. 1 year of Medical Office or Lab experience preferred. Current CPR certification required. RMA/CMA or CPCT/A certification required.
