Position Announcement

Financial Aid Assistant

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Upper Cumberland is accepting applications for a full-time Financial Aid Clerk. Assist with the day-to-day operations within the financial aid office. Serve as a front-line personal contact for students and others with questions regarding the financial aid process at TCAT Upper Cumberland.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and, three (3) years’ experience in a higher education setting. Additional post-secondary education from a regionally accredited institution may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis up to three; and, three (3) years’ experience in a higher education setting working with financial aid; and experience working with the Banner Financial Aid system and/or similar systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Technical diploma or higher in the trade preferred and two (2) years’ experience in a higher education setting. Additional post-secondary education from a regionally accredited institution may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis for up to two years.
  • Show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude and ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, faculty, staff, the public, and industry.

General Duties:

  • Assist with the management of assigned financial aid program(s), including administration, processing, verifying eligibility, awarding, monitoring, and adjusting awards each semester; reconciling accounts; maintaining institutional compliance as required by program proponent organization and applicable statutes; and maintaining the student information system/Banner and Banner workflow emails as related to assigned program(s).
  • Assist students via email, phone or walk-ins, with general questions about financial aid programs, processes, eligibility, refunds, impact of withdrawal or over awards. Elevates complex questions to Financial Aid Coordinator. 
  • Maintain and update outside agencies such as WIOA etc. with Pell forms and travel sheets for students
  • Review documents received for accuracy and completeness
  • Certify enrollment and maintain records for VA students and comply with annual VA training requirements and work with VA Coordinator on VA files/ VA Training / 2nd SCO
  • Oversee federal work study.
  • Certify dual enrollment students with TSAC and process awards in Banner.
  • Maintains files accurately, in paper and/or electronic formats. Assists with the Records Retention and Destruction of financial aid data in accordance with established statutes and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience according to salary guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
