The Katherine Thomas High school program has an opening for a full-time social worker beginning with the 2023/2024 school year. KTHS is a private special education school serving students with language, learning, sensory motor disabilities and/or high functioning autism. The School Social Worker is responsible for providing psycho-educational and social-emotional services to students and families of students enrolled in KTHS grades 9-12.

Responsibilities of the Social Worker include:

• Student counseling in both groups and on an individual basis to provide counseling centered therapy
• Parent support groups and parent conferences
• Interdisciplinary team meetings
• Integration into the classroom setting
• Liaison with community agencies
• Appropriate clinical record keeping to ensure that school standards for clinical accountability/quality programming are upheld

Required Experience for the School Social Worker:

• Active MD Board of Social Work License required - All licensure levels are encouraged to apply
• Previous experience with children and working with a special needs population preferred
• Some experience with educational agencies and interdisciplinary teams
• Clinical experience in school counseling or play therapy is preferred
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Interpersonal skills that bring about effective communication and positive interactions with students

As a condition of employment, all employees are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated.
