TJT (Thomas, Judy, & Tucker) is seeking a State & Local Tax Manager (SALT) with at least five years of experience in public accounting with a focus on state and local taxation. We are looking for an individual with extensive experience performing multi-state tax research on state and local income tax matters such as tax planning, implementation, due diligence, and controversies with state and local jurisdictions. 

Tax Manager (Essential Functions)

• Expertise reviewing state income tax returns
• Experience using CCH Axcess Tax and Engagement trial balance software
• Strong communication skills required for managing and developing client relationships
• Exposure to both federal and state tax research
• Prior experience consulting with closely held businesses
• Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies
• Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings, appeal meetings, and preparing protests
• Review information presented on state income tax returns before, during, and after preparation
• Research and draft technical memoranda regarding income and franchise tax controversies
• Research and draft summaries of state tax legislation to communicate in-house and to clients
• Supervise team and leverage their skills and abilities to effectively and efficiently complete engagements
• Assist multi-state companies with analyzing state tax considerations/impacts related to business restructuring projects and intercompany transactions
• Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff members

Job Requirements

• Current CPA certification
• Minimum of five years of progressive SALT consulting and technical experience in public accounting
• Strong communication skills
• Extensive technical tax expertise

Other:

• Experience with state tax technical research skills (i.e. BNA Bloomberg, RIA Checkpoint, CCH, etc.)
• Experience in providing tax research and technical advice on multi-state issues
• Strong knowledge of the development, planning, and execution of sales and transactions tax refund claims
• Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills, with experience writing technical memorandums and client proposals
