Tioga Opportunities is Hiring a Family Support Specialist Near Owego, NY

The Family Support Specialist assists customers toward economic and social self-sufficiency.
Pay rate: $18.00/hour
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week.
Location: Owego, NY

Job description:
  • Promote asset-based thinking, including Financial Social Work model through development and implementation of a financial plan
  • Provide one-on-one financial counseling
  • Review and/or help customers create a household budget
  • Provide training on pulling credit reports, understanding/improving credit scores, and reducing dependence on debt
  • Regularly assess, monitor, and report customer progress and stability toward individual goal and outcome achievement
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all customer service activity, and ensure that customer records are complete and accurate
  • Provide education on how to avoid financial scams
  • Conduct public presentations on financial literacy tools and topics
  • Administer pre and post-education surveys
Job Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • A graduate from a regionally accredited registered four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work or human services related field AND one year of full-time paid experience in case management; OR
  • A graduate from a regionally accredited or registered two year college with an associate degree AND three years of experience in community health services, or human services or a related field: OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Possess or willing to obtain Family Development Credential (FDC) and Financial Social Work (FSW) training within 1 year of employment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, engagement, and customer relations skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with people from various backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office, and experience working within a database

  • On-site attendance is required
  • Must have a clean, current drivers license and ability to travel throughout the county
