Position Summary Tilton School seeks a strategic and dynamic Director (or Co-Director) of College Counseling who is eager to inject inspiration and innovation into a high functioning College Counseling Office (CCO) and flourishing school community. Tilton offers a unique and valuable education that is relational, competency-based, and leverages real-world learning experiences that prepare our graduates to become ethical, humane leaders in a rapidly changing world. Accordingly, this role will balance high-level institutional priorities with the daily management of the office. Additionally, this position will be afforded the opportunity to rethink and recast CCO programs and practices in service of a growing and diverse population of students and families. As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. College Counseling Office faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute one season in the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position can include housing. The Successful Candidate will: Institutional and External Community BuildingAlign College Counseling processes and programs with Tilton School’s mission and values Articulate the vision of the CCO and its approach in guiding the student college search process to various stakeholdersProactively and strategically cultivate relationships with a wide range of colleges and post-secondary options through campus visits and tours and by networking with college admissions and college counseling professionalsEnsure effective and timely communication to all stakeholders Collaborate with the Head of School and Administrative Leadership Team to identify student and family needs, sound structures, best practices, and school policies to better support students Pursue professional learning and network building opportunities, including attending national and regional conferences such as NACAC, ACCIS, NEACAC, and LRISCCA Student and Family Partnership-Advise and support the junior and senior class through all phases of the college search and application process with warmth, compassion, and cultural competence-Develop educational programming throughout the year to support families and students through the college search and application process-Demonstrate responsive leadership across the department in an effort to serve a diverse group of students and families throughout the college process-Write effective letters of recommendation that highlight each student’s academic strengths and individual journey-Demonstrate current knowledge of college programs and financial aid processes as each relates to individual student need-Continue to build partnerships between parents/guardians and the College Counseling Office that center on each student’s unique journey and processes, and to creating a culture of inclusivity in the college process-Demonstrate deep appreciation for the growing needs of students and families and an openness to lead with compassion and innovation-Administrative Duties-Oversee institutional submission of school materials in support of students-Host annual college fair and visiting colleges and universities to promote the understanding of Tilton School’s unique academic program, student experience, and extracurricular opportunities-Present annual CCO reports to the Board of Trustees and faculty-Maintain, track, and analyze student records, matriculation trends, and testing data and related databases (such as SCOIR and YouScience) -Revise and publish the annual School Profile -Oversee standardized test administration offered by the School (PSAT, SAT, ACT); serve as liaison between Tilton and testing agencies-Support and develop the college counseling team, with a continued effort to grow and improve office and individual practices-Regularly examine the college counseling office’s systems, programs, and processes -Other duties as assigned by the Head of SchoolExpectations and QualificationsSkills and Sensibilities-Excellent communication and management skills that includes holding boundaries and confidentiality and leaning into necessary and sometimes difficult conversations-Confidence and humility to advocate for and embrace new ideas, welcome feedback, and build consensusQualifications:Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and interest in working with teenagers Preferred: Prior work in college counseling or college admissionTo Apply Electronic materials only, please.
