Description
The Solar Electrician will be responsible for connecting PV systems to the building electrical system. This is a hands-on construction role that requires an in-depth knowledge of Photovoltaic, AC, and Low Voltage systems. An understanding of the NEC code as well as an understanding of DC wiring system and AC wiring systems is also essential.
Job Duties:
Install electrical service equipment, wiring and devices required for the installation of residential and light commercial solar PV systems
Carry out installation of solar PV systems, including above ground and underground electrical wiring, mounting of inverters, combiners, transformers, and panel boards
Facilitate successful completion of all tasks from start to finish while ensuring it meets or exceeds current National Electric Code requirements as well as local jurisdiction requests, and industry best practices/standards
Troubleshoot non-working systems, and work with product manufacturers for warranty replacement of defective equipment
Work with Homeowner to bring outdated electrical systems up to code to support new PV installations
Build productive relationships with local Inspectors to satisfy local requirements and expectations
Maintain high-quality control of tools, vehicles, and materials needed for job responsibilities
Maintain compliance with all PPE and safety regulations per OSHA
Ensure jobs are ready for inspection upon completion of the project
Provide an in-depth knowledge of grounding bonding, array, equipment, racking, and fencing
Test and commission Photovoltaic Electrical Systems
Ensure a safe, efficient, and quality product with adherence to project specifications and ensure a quality installation experience for the customer
Take continuing education courses related to the PV industry to stay up to date on the most current code changes, material changes, and changes in industry best practices
Train new installers to work safely while keeping quality in mind
Requirements
Current, valid Master or Journeyman License within the state with a letter of good standing from the state
Two years of lead solar installation experience preferred, but candidates with strong electrical experience will also be considered
Proficient in heavy equipment use, power and hand tool use, trade-specific tools, materials identification, and general home/building construction techniques used in the construction industry
Relationship builder that displays a positive “can-do” attitude with excellent customer service skills and problem-solving skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage a variety of diverse people, both internally and externally
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
Ability to perform physical requirements of the project including the ability to lift up to 65 pounds, working in high locations under all season weather conditions
Must be a motivated team player with a strong work ethic and grit
Must be able to work long and/or extended hours to include weekends, as needed, with ability to travel occasionally and sometimes overnight
Familiar with local codes, AHJ standards, NEC code, and industry best practices and standards
Understands how to read and interpret blueprints, installation manuals, and specifications
Effective time management skills, understands how to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Valid Driver’s license
Background check, Motor Vehicle Record check, and drug screen required
