Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking a Patient Service Representative to work out of our Central Billing Office in Newport News. Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) is comprised of over 200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is the largest physician-owned groups in Tidewater. The schedule is full-time work hours, Monday through Friday.
Position Summary The CBO Patient Services Representative I is responsible for accurate and timely entry to patient accounts using a multi-line phone system. Responsible for greeting and assisting patients and other customers efficiently and effectively in order to route calls to the correct department. Functions in a multi-disciplinary environment, which requires the application of excellent customer services skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures all patient phone calls are handled with professionalism.
Provide answers to questions over the phone to callers or transfer the phone to the appropriate CBO representative.
Greeting all customers entering the billing department, ensuring any question is handling promptly.
Responsible for accurately updating patient records after speaking with patients.
Opening up and distributing all mail and correspondence daily.
Reviewing and correcting any return mail received.
Responsible for keeping office supplies fully stock and equipment maintenance calls.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of computer systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology including cash posting, EOB’s and insurance terminology.
Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
Ability to answer a multi-phone line system.
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
Ability to use office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, fax, etc.).
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to construct correspondence and memos.
Skill in presenting information in an organized manner.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in providing excellent customer service.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma/GED.
Six to twelve months related experience/training.
One year experience in a medical environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand and walk for periods of time.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.*
Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
Ability to smell.
