Thruway Authority is Hiring a Print Operations Supervisor Near Albany, NY

Five years of offset printing equipment operating experience, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level; or one year of service as a Print Equipment Operator 3.

Duties Description
The incumbent will oversee and manage a team of Print Equipment Operators and operate offset presses used in the reproduction of printed and typewritten materials; cuts, binds, collates, staples, folds and perforates printed material; and operates a laminating machine and White Printer. Additional duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Oversee and operate all offset and digital print machines.
  • Maintain production equipment.
  • Train new staff on all print equipment.
  • Produce standard printing procedures and technical processes.
  • Diagnose routine equipment issues and request support as needed.
  • Retrieve, sort, record, weigh, and distribute materials.
  • Proficiently utilize Microsoft Office Suite and various program specific applications.
  • Interact with colleagues, customers, and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Answer phone inquiries and accurately relay messages.
  • Perform tasks in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.
  • Oversee the processing of photo mechanicals on platemaking equipment, both electrostatic and mercury exposure metal plates from negatives.
  • Make proper adjustments to machines to ensure adequate ink flow and clarity of impressions.
  • Clean and repair machines and equipment.
  • Operate cutting and padding equipment.
  • Operate related equipment such as duplicating, folding, collating, binder machines, perforator, and white printer.
  • File and retire photo mechanicals, photo negatives, and metal offset plates.
  • Laminate, cut, and punch pass plates.
  • Oversee bindery work and various print shop equipment including folding machine, cutter, drill, collator, and shrink wrapper.
  • Ensure all print jobs are accurately prepared, processed, tracked, and recorded.
  • Stage, package, and label outgoing print jobs for shipment.
  • Pull supplies from stock and record inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with bulk mail inserting as needed.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, coworkers, and supervisors via telephone and/or email regarding all aspects of print requests.
  • Engage in all communication necessary to work with coworkers and supervisor on an ongoing basis to ensure deadlines are upheld.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and agency staff.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle may be required. Operation of a motor vehicle may be required.
  • Ability to lift a minimum 45 pounds.
  • Comply with established safety procedures.

This is a NYS Thruway Authority Unit 2 CSEA position:
Health Insurance and Prescription Drug Coverage.

13 Paid Holidays, 4 of which are floating holidays, which are credited in July each year for use from July 1st through June 30th.??
Vacation, Sick and Personal Accruals.
Sick Leave is credited at the rate of one-half day each biweekly pay period up to a total of 165 days.
Sick Leave Incentive Plan – Employees who have not accumulated 165 sick days and have not used sick leave during the periods of January 1st to June 30th or July 1st to December 31st each year, may receive two days of pay for each six-month period.? Employees who have a sick leave balance of 165 sick leave days, and continuously maintain that balance for each six-month period, may receive four days of pay for each six-month period.?
Employees with 20 years of Authority/State service may receive up to an additional five days of vacation leave accruals annually.
Vacation Exchange Program - Between November 15th. and December 31st of each year, employees who have previously earned and accrued vacation credits may elect to receive cash payments in lieu of the use of up to five days of such accrued vacation credits.? Employees who maintain a 35-day vacation accrual balance in the pay period prior to submitting the election form may exchange an additional five days for a total exchange of 10 days of accrued vacation credits.
Membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, as well as optional enrollment in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
Tuition Assistance Program, which reimburses 90% of tuition costs for approved courses up to 21 credit hours per year.
New York's 529 College Savings Program, which provides New York families with a tax-advantaged way to save for college.
Longevity Pay - Employees with five years of satisfactory service at or above the maximum salary of their grade will be eligible to have salary advanced to the First Longevity, 10 years of satisfactory service will advance to the Second Longevity, and 15 years of satisfactory service will advance to the Third Longevity.? Longevity pay has a positive impact on retirement.?
Employees are paid bi-weekly, with no lag time.
Some positions will be eligible for downstate and/or geographical pay depending on location and title.
