Peer Respite Specialist
As a Peer Respite Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to individuals experiencing mental health challenges in a peer-run respite setting. Your lived experience and recovery journey will serve as a source of inspiration and connection for guests seeking respite and recovery. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals can find comfort, understanding, and hope. Your primary focus will be on promoting self-determination, resilience, and fostering a sense of community among guests.
Responsibilities:
Peer Support: Utilize your personal lived experience to connect with guests on a peer-to-peer level, fostering empathy and understanding.
Provide emotional support, active listening, and validation to guests, helping them navigate their current challenges.
Share your recovery journey to inspire hope and demonstrate that recovery is possible.
Guest Engagement: Welcome and orient new guests to the respite environment, explaining the program's purpose, structure, and available resources.
Encourage guests to engage in various activities and groups, facilitating socialization and a sense of belonging.
Assist in organizing and leading group discussions, workshops, and recreational activities.
Crisis Intervention: Collaborate with guests and the team to de-escalate situations if a crisis arises, drawing on your training and experience to provide effective support.
Communicate any emergent concerns to the appropriate team members and follow established protocols for crisis management.
Resource Coordination: Provide information about community resources, mental health services, and other supports available to guests, helping them access the assistance they need.
Collaborate with external service providers to ensure a holistic approach to guests' well-being.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of guest interactions, progress, and any significant observations.
Complete required documentation in a timely and organized manner, adhering to privacy and confidentiality standards.
Team Collaboration: Attend regular team meetings to discuss guest progress, share insights, and contribute to program development.
Collaborate with other staff members, including clinicians and support personnel, to provide comprehensive care to guests.
Shift Flexibility: Ability to work day, swing, and night shifts as required by the program's operational needs.
Self-Care and Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Practice self-care strategies to maintain your own well-being and resilience, recognizing the importance of your own recovery journey.
Qualifications:
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 28 per week
