Three Rivers Community Schools is Hiring a Teacher, Special Education Near Three Rivers, MI

Job Title: Teacher, Special Education

Building: Middle School

Reports to: Building Principal

Summary: 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team and create a who maintains a positive learning environment, holds high academic expectations, and creates a student-centered classroom. This individual will be responsible for planning instruction and/or adaption of the education program to enable all students to benefit from the educational experience.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required.
  • Applicant must be Highly Qualified with the applicable Michigan Teaching Certificate endorsement in Special Education (or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe).
  • Prior teaching experience (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Commitment to student success and professional growth.

Qualified candidates should skillfully demonstrate the following:

  • the ability to prioritize student-learning needs over the customs, routines, and established relationships that can stand in the way of necessary change; 
  • the strong desire to achieve outstanding results in a short amount of time; 
  • the strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students in order to exert academic press and influence; 
  • the skill and willingness to leverage the student support network to ensure that students’ social, emotional, nutritional, and health needs are addressed; 
  • the ability to collaboratively create and execute clear, logical instructional plans that produce strong results in student learning; 
  • the capacity to rigorously create and sustain a well-orchestrated system of ongoing data collection and analysis to inform a continuously responsive and adaptive system of tiered instruction attentive to students’ specific academic needs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act or ADA)

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with the district provided curriculum. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. 
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. 
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work. 
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. 
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs. 
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development. 
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
  • Provide case management, conduct IEP meetings and lead student team meetings
  • IEP development based on data collection and progress monitoring
  • Provide student support through a continuum of options in a least restrictive environment
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned
  • Maintain a consistent and reliable on-site work schedule

FLSA Status:

This is an Exempt FLSA position. Exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Additional Information:

  • Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Schedule: 180 days per year, generally following the TRCS Academic Calendar. Includes non-working days during winter, spring, and summer breaks, as well as designated holidays.
