Thornwell is Hiring a Full-Time Food Service Worker Near Clinton, SC

Position Summary:
Prepares, transports, and serves students at the Thornwell Charter School (TCS) Campus 2 location, approximately 1.5 miles from the Thornwell Dining Hall (TDH), where all food is prepared.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Prepares menu according to instructions. Prepares items to be transported to additional sites.
  • Assists in preparing fruits/vegetables for transport.
  • Loads and transports food to be served at TCS Campus 2.
  • Unloads van and sets up serving line.
  • Serves students/staff according to National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines.
  • Cleans serving area and prepares breakfast for the next morning.
  • Packs up dirty dishes and equipment to be returned to TDH.
  • Loads van and returns to TDH. Unloads van. All dirty dishes are to be run through the dish machine. Bags, coolers, etc. to be cleaned and sanitized for the next day.
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, electric mixers, slicers, ovens, stove tops, warmers, and dishwashers.
  • Utilizes kitchenware such as, but not limited to, knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, and ladles.
  • Practices safe food handling according to HACCP or Serv-Safe, and Food Service Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Skills:
  • Must be able to follow directions and work both as a team as well as independently.
  • Applies and maintains standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
  • Reads, writes and communicates effectively.
Qualifications:
  • The position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma and a valid Driver’s License.
Working Conditions:
  • Hot (kitchen) and cold (Freezer) working conditions.
  • Ability to safely lift and move 35-50 pounds (over 50% and up to 60% of the time).
  • Standing for extended periods of time on concrete and tile floors.
  • Reach in all directions. Bend, twist, kneel, and stoop. Repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Using sharp knives and equipment, cleaning with caustic chemicals, and working on potentially wet and slippery floors.
  • Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Non-slip shoes are required.
