Primary Job Function:

The Director of Fund Operations is a critical leadership role that will manage a strategy for mutual fund and UCITS operations and oversee a team. The Director will apply diverse knowledge of Fund Operations to ensure operational excellence, enhance client focus, unlock the team’s full potential and continue to shape a high performing culture. This position oversees the Funds/UCITS Transfer Agent, manages the contact center, ensures shareholder data integrity, reviews and validates invoices, provides sales and firm reporting, reviews and updates policy and procedures, reviews prospectus, ensures compliance with prospectus and all securities regulations and provides board reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as leader, providing strategic direction, vision, and coaching to the team within Fund Operations. Effectively manages performance and actively develops direct reports.
  • Leads and manages various operations related functions, including contact center, manual processing, automated processing, resource planning, and large transaction reporting. Ensures that all daily administrative and operations functions are completed as required by business standards and industry and regulatory guidelines and support the evolution of those functions as the business and regulatory environments change.
  • Oversees the interface with the Transfer Agent and DTCC as well as use of other all third-party systems. Reviews and negotiates Transfer Agent contracts and establishes and reviews key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity in developing strategic plans and goals for Fund Operations; provides support and guidance to the CFO by assessing internal and external client needs as a basis for recommending service enhancements while addressing the regulatory and operational related risks that are inherent in transfer agent operations. Looks for ways to control costs while minimizing reputation and monetary risks to Thornburg. Adapts goals and strategies as market structure, business opportunities or regulations change.
  • Serves as the lead contact for Thornburg Securities LLC (Distributor) and maintain and enhance relationships with his/her counterparts at the financial intermediaries (broker/dealers). Work with intermediaries to review and amend sub-distributor agreements, conducts operational/oversight visits and partners with sales on evolving relationships with intermediaries.
  • Ensures compliance with FINRA, SEC and all State securities rules and regulations.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of industry knowledge; keeps current on Company’s policies and objectives; continues to expand knowledge of the business and industry; keeps current on the competition. Participate in ICI’s TA and Operations committee.
  • Maintains a working understanding of Blue-Sky requirements, SEC guidance regarding intermediary oversight, SEC Rule 22c-2, invoice/payment reconciliation, regulatory mailing logistics, and other industry initiatives. 
  • Collaborates with Fund Administration and Transfer Agent to ensure accurate year-end tax reporting.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited 4 year college or university - required.
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience with detailed knowledge of the financial industry including the rules and regulations that govern the markets. 
  • 5 years of supervisory or management experience. 
  • Proven ability to demonstrate executive presence, thought leadership and to influence others in the industry. 
  • Expertise regarding the use of computer programs used to analyze and report data. Proficient in Microsoft - Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • FINRA Series 7 and Series 24 license or pass the exam within 6 months of hire.
