thomsonreuters is Hiring a Senior Counsel - Privacy & Cybersecurity Near New York, NY

Senior Counsel, Privacy & Cybersecurity will provide practical advice on business decisions and operations regarding privacy and data protection laws.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise business lines on their global systems and operations as it relates to all aspects of global privacy and data protection laws (including GDPR, US state privacy laws, LGPD, PIPEDA, etc.)
  • Monitor and track emerging data protection regulations and translate legal terms into business requirements, guidance, and advice, such as digital advertising, online use of trackers, and cybersecurity investigations and incident response
  • Collaborate with product and business teams to identify legal risks in product development and provide risk-mitigation counseling, including reviewing PIAs to ensure legal compliance
  • Provide legal counsel to cybersecurity teams, including during investigations to ensure they are conducted and documented appropriately to minimize risks, protect individual privacy, and fulfill legal obligations arising from incidents
  • Assist contracting teams in negotiating Data Protection Agreement; draft and maintain data protection agreement templates
  • Otherwise assist the Global Privacy Office in discharging its duties

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in providing legal and regulatory advice on privacy and data protection matters, with a good working knowledge of key cybersecurity and privacy laws
  • Significant experience operationalizing global privacy requirements and in cybersecurity investigations and incident response
  • A law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school, and admission to the Bar of a US state
