Position Description

The DOT/ Driver Compliance Manager oversees and manages all aspects of the Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and all company driver programs within the organization, including but not limited to authorized, vehicle and stipend drivers. This role is responsible for ensuring that all drivers adhere to federal and state regulations, company policies, and safety standards while operating vehicles, including commercial. The DOT/ Driver Compliance Manager collaborates with various departments to develop and implement training programs, monitor driver performance, and maintain accurate records to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with DOT regulations regarding driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, and hours of service.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state regulations and update company policies accordingly to maintain compliance.
  • Coordinate and conduct regular training sessions for drivers on DOT regulations, safety protocols, defensive driving techniques, and other relevant topics.
  • Conduct periodic audits and inspections of driver logs, vehicle inspection reports, and other documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage the process of driver qualification files, including background checks, driving record checks, drug and alcohol testing, and medical certifications.
  • Investigate and address any violations or safety incidents involving all drivers, including accidents, near misses, and traffic citations.
  • Collaborate with fleet management to ensure that all vehicles meet DOT safety requirements and are properly maintained.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for DOT regulatory agencies and assist with any audits, inspections, or inquiries.
  • Analyze data related to driver performance, safety metrics, and compliance trends to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and supervisors on DOT compliance issues and driver safety best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as transportation management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations governing commercial motor vehicles, including hours of service, driver qualifications, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of safety management principles and best practices, with the ability to develop and implement effective safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and communicate with drivers, managers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and analyze data to drive decision-making.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office and transportation management software.
  • Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP) or similar certification preferred.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed for training, meetings, or regulatory compliance purposes.
