Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Diversity and Social Justice is a key member in the Division of Student Life and Office of Student Engagement. This position will report directly to the Director of Student Engagement. The Assistant Director is responsible for the development of educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the student experience on the East Falls Campus. This position advises the student Diversity Council and supports identity-based clubs/organizations as well as coordination of student-centered diversity programming. The position has a focus on social justice and community outreach including management of the Ramily Market food pantry and providing training on DEI topics for students/faculty/staff at the East Falls Campus. During the summer, the Assistant Director will assist the Director with the management of the New Student Orientation program.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Supervise student staff--Program Coordinators and Ramily Market Associates
  • Manage the diversity and social justice budget
  • Develop and implement educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the student experience
  • Develop and provide training on DEI topics for staff/faculty/students on the East Falls Campus
  • Direct the Ramily Market including staff supervision, student outreach, budgeting/grants, campus partner relationships, staff training, market stocking, reporting, and assessment
  • Advise the student Diversity Council including managing the yearly Multicultural Graduation Ceremony
  • Directly advise and support identity-based clubs and organizations
  • Manage the Interfaith Prayer Space and spiritual development programming
  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement with the management of New Student Orientation during the summer including oversight of the Exploring Philly extended orientation program
  • Serve as a member of the department team responsible for leadership programs such as ELP and LEAD
  • Serve as an Instructor for the First Year Seminar, FYS-100
  • Support department and division initiatives

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with university staff, faculty, and students
  • Effective customer relations and communication skills
  • Experience supervising student staff required
  • Strong background in the development of educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the student experience
  • Strong background in student group advising
  • Experience with food/housing insecurity programs preferred
  • Experience with orientation, transition, and retention programs preferred
