QC Inspector Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

MUST HAVE SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE AND CWI

Performs in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and all other applicable requirements. Works under the general supervision of the QA/QC Manager.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
Reports to the QA/QC Manager.

Inspects and/ or tests parts of products being fabricated, assembled, welded or otherwise manufactured to assure compliance with contract quality standards.

Documents inspections and tests. Accepts or rejects material or assemblies not conforming to design specifications or approved deviations. Inspects purchased parts and specialty items from suppliers.

Consults with QA/QC Manager and/or brings to attention of production supervision in cases of product problem areas or faulty workmanship. Maintains records and files pertaining to quality control/inspection of products.

Verifies requisite materials traceability and identification to meet ITP and contract requirements.

Ensure identification and traceability of all finished goods in the yard. Carry out regular welding audits, assist procedure qualifications, and welder’s performance qualification. Liaise with Class societies and customers.

Assist QA/QC Manager is management of NDE subcontractors management and cost controls.

The above description is general in nature. A QA Inspector may be required to perform other related duties not described herein.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
MUST HAVE SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE

Internationally recognized certifications preferred: AWS CWI, NACE CIP, ASNT NDT Level III, etc. Thorough knowledge of detail and assembly drawings used in manufacturing processes. Thorough knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to focus of manufacturing area assigned. Ability to use tools, gauges, measuring devices, and test equipment necessary for the inspection process. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to interface well with yard supervisors, managers, and customer quality assurance personnel. Fully conversant with Ship Terminology/Classification Rules/ASME/AWS codes and regulations. Fully conversant with ASME SEC IX, AWS D1.1, ASME B 31.3 codes or other relevant craft codes or specifications. Hands on experience in inspection of marine engine components, deck machinery (winches, cranes), pumps, valves, electrical, instrumentation or structural steel fabrication. Thorough knowledge about welding processes like SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW. Thorough knowledge of selection and application of welding procedures. Excellent communication skills, good command over written and spoken English, computer literate, good report writing skills. Exposure to ISO Quality Management systems and internal audits. Exposure to Safety and Environmental Management Systems. Must obtain majority of own inspection tools.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
Completion of a standard high school education supplemented or including course work in drafting, applied mathematics industrial technology, Mechanical/Production Engineering, and considerable to extensive experience in manufacturing processes; or any equivalent combination of education and training which results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 5 years minimum experience in the capacity of QA/QC inspector, craftsmen, or supervisor in the ship repair/shipyard/dry-dock industry.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
