ROLE OVERVIEW

To safely operate and control a fleet of Autonomous Haul Trucks (AHT's) and associated manual loading, hauling and ancillary equipment whilst located in a control room. Collaborate with site/project teams and work with key internal and external stakeholders to meet the project's targets in safety, environment and production according to the daily mine plan.

TRAVEL and RELOCATION

The candidate selected for this role will be required to relocate to Australia for 12-18 months for job specific training. Once training is complete, this position will be located at one of our project sites in North America

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Autonomous Haulage Operations

  • Control a fleet of Autonomous Haul Trucks (AHT's) and associated manual loading, hauling and ancillary equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to the daily mine plan.
  • Create dynamic and static work areas within the AOZ and manage assignments to comply with the design plans.
  • Create exclusion and exception zones on an as- required basis.
  • Applying and maintaining accurate delays in the autonomous system.
  • Monitor and evaluate data of the AHS system to maximize truck productivity and utilization.
  • Managing AHT recoveries from stoppages, including obstacle detections.
  • Monitor and manage AHT's for weather and other environmental conditions.
  • Coordinate the safe entry and exit of non-site aware vehicles under escort as required.
  • Escalating system issues to the relevant support personnel.
  • Actively involved with defining and improving the AHS Controller best practices and guides
  • Adhere to rigorous configuration management procedures relating to system changes.
  • Execute the short term mine plan to achieve project KPI's.
  • Run reports in accordance with the Site Fleet Management system requirements and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on the communications network performance.
  • Understand and follow the site-specific procedures and how-to-guides for AHS operations.
  • Understand and adapt to AHS changes including technology, policies, and procedures.
  • Mentor/Coach AHS trainees.

People and Relationships

  • Participate in meetings e.g., pre-starts, toolbox talks etc. with supervisors and other staff, maintaining constant communication throughout the work shift.
  • Undertake training as required to gain new skills and changes to the autonomous system.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring where required to other personnel.
  • Prioritize work to meet shift objectives.
  • Complete and validate shift reports, shift handover and document all issues requiring follow up
  • Involves team members in discussions regarding troubleshooting outcomes.
  • Works well with others to assist in developing solutions to workplace challenges.
  • Prompt communication with affected parties when plans or decisions are modified.
  • Ensure communication with peers, supervisor and other employees contribute to safe and harmonious working relationships.
  • Follow direction of supervisor in emergency response situations.
  • Actively participates and contributes in change management activities.
  • Establish effective internal and external relationships (with colleagues, management teams, the client and service provider) to achieve project goals.
  • Work as part of a multi-functional team to achieve project KPIs.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with suppliers and the CIMIC Group

Safety and Environment

  • Ensure the control room is secured and personnel within the control room are kept to a minimum.
  • Provide authorization for personnel to enter the control room and where required personnel are supervised.
  • Set the workplace health and safety culture within control operations.
  • Comply and adherence with all company policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Report autonomous related incidents as soon as practicable.
  • Participate in safety enquiries, safety meetings and site safety programs as and when required.
  • Participate in workplace inspections as required.
  • Continuously improves risk controls, learning from internal and external incidents and industry best practices.
  • Understands the impact of decisions on HSE, risk, productivity, and cultural outcomes.
  • Understand, follow and carry-out the correct procedures during an emergency.
  • Promote, encourage, and foster the safety culture and environmentally responsible behavior within the team.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported in accordance with the Incident Reporting and Investigation Guidelines
  • Maintain a high standard of personal safety and demonstrate an awareness of, and commitment to, the safety of fellow employees and the environment.
  • Comply with site standards for Personal Protective Equipment and Housekeeping
  • Only operate machinery and carry out tasks that you are authorized and competent in
  • Always report Fit for Duty whilst rostered on and report any issues to the Supervisor.
  • Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately.
  • Comply with all DOT (Department of Transport) and in-house regulations and rules.
  • Effectively communicate information to relevant person's so that they are aware of, and understand conditions, risks, impact, and activities relevant to their work
  • Accurately identifies hazards and risks associated with daily activities.
  • Monitor the mining environment including water, dust, noise, and report as necessary.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Demonstrate through own behavior a total commitment to Thiess and project safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all reasonable management instructions and directions as issued by Supervisor, or their delegate.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Current Coal Board Medical
  • Current Standard 11
  • Current Driver's License
  • Relevant machinery evidence (SSE/RII certificates)
  • Has experience with autonomous haulage and process.
  • Has well developed/strong computer skills e.g., Microsoft suite, Internet Explorer, Email, file transfer etc.
  • Is self-directed, takes initiative and acts with confidence to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Understands and shares insights from data as key inputs to decision making.
  • Ensures the accurate completion of all fields with the tools used to capture data and is able to identify issues within the data set, such as missing values, outliers and lack of sufficient data.
  • Advocates for the importance of data capture and leverages data to drive effectiveness and efficiencies within daily routines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop quick strategies to act when trying to solve a problem.
  • Able to effectively communicate and build trusted relationships with key stakeholders to support safe operations in the AOZ, including AH Supervisor, AH Controller and Builder.
  • Perform tasks with a continuous improvement mindset, contributing ideas and creating solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and balance multiple priorities.
  • Can make data-based decisions by utilizing the data generated from the autonomous haulage system.
  • Able to identify and analyze problems and make recommendations.
  • Responds to change with passion and commitment to the role, remains outcome focused with personal accountability.
  • Displays a mindset of self-enquiry to seek more knowledge, while looking for ways to adopt and adapt best practices.
  • Ability to find, evaluate, and compose clear information through writing and other mediums on various digital platforms.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in autonomous operations highly desirable.
  • Experience in an open cut mining environment preferred.
  • At least 12 months experience as a Heavy Mobile Plant Operator in the mining industry.
